Job description

  • Content Strategist (Freelance – HYBRID in Golden Valley, MN)

Engagement: Freelance (Initial 6?month assignment, potential extension or conversion)

Our Medical Device client is seeking an experienced Freelance Content Strategist to shape, organize, and elevate our content ecosystem across provider and direct-to-consumer (D2C) audiences. This role is ideal for a strategist who thrives at the intersection of messaging, structure, and stakeholder collaboration—someone who can see the big picture and also roll up their sleeves for select writing and editing needs.

    Key Responsibilities

  • Content Audit & Rationalization

  • Conduct a comprehensive audit of existing content for Provider and D2C audiences.
  • Rationalize, consolidate, and streamline assets across platforms (e.g., Showpad, internal repositories, external-facing materials).
  • Identify redundancies, gaps, and inconsistencies in messaging and format.
  • Recommend a clear, scalable content architecture to support current and future needs.
  • Messaging Framework Development

  • Translate new brand positioning into a cohesive core messaging framework.
  • Define key narratives, value propositions, and proof points for both clinical (provider) and patient/D2C audiences.
  • Create guidelines for tone, voice, and messaging hierarchy to be used across teams and channels.
  • Marketing-Focused Content Strategy

  • Work closely with Marketing to develop and implement an integrated content strategy that supports campaigns, launches, and always-on initiatives.
  • Map content to the customer journey for both providers and patients, identifying critical moments and appropriate content types.
  • Advise on channel mix and content formats (e.g., web, email, sales enablement, education, print, video).
  • Lay the groundwork for extending content strategy into education and training teams as a potential next phase.
  • Cross-Functional & Agency Partnership

  • Partner with internal stakeholders (Marketing, Sales, Medical Affairs, Education & Training, etc.) to align on content priorities and workflows.
  • Collaborate with external agencies to ensure deliverables reflect the messaging framework and content strategy.
  • Serve as a central point of contact for questions on content direction, structure, and messaging consistency.
  • Hands-On Content Work

  • Perform targeted writing and editing to refine key assets, particularly those that define or exemplify the new messaging framework.
  • Develop content maps, outlines, and wireframes that guide internal writers and external partners.
  • Ensure all content adheres to brand, regulatory, and clinical accuracy standards.
  • Role Profile
  • Emphasis: Heavier on content mapping, organization, and messaging strategy; lighter but meaningful contribution in direct content creation/editing.
  • Engagement Length: Initial 6?month freelance assignment, with the possibility to extend, convert, or transition responsibilities to another leader at the end of the term.
  • Qualifications
  • Proven experience as a Content Strategist, Content Lead, or similar role, ideally within medical devices, healthcare, or other technical industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale content audits and reorganizations.
  • Strong background in developing messaging frameworks from brand positioning.
  • Comfort working with both provider/clinical and consumer audiences, tailoring language and depth accordingly.
  • Exceptional skills in content mapping, information architecture, and content governance.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience partnering across marketing, sales, and external agencies.
  • Hands-on writing and editing skills, with attention to clarity, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Technical proficiency or familiarity with med device, healthcare, or similarly regulated, complex products strongly preferred.
  • Engagement Details
  • Freelance / contract position.
  • Initial 6?month engagement with opportunity for extension or transition.
  • Collaborative work with cross-functional teams and agency partners; location and schedule details to be discussed during the interview process.
