We’re hiring a Freelance Project Manager – Contractor, Merchandising Space Optimization to support a large-scale retail fleet through merchandise planning, store mapping, and space optimization initiatives. This is a 100% remote contract role and is expected to move quickly.

Position Summary
This role supports execution related to merchandise planning and mapping for freestanding and shop-in-shop retail locations, as well as maintaining coordinated databases used by downstream partners for collateral purchasing and assortment management. The Project Manager will support cross-functional retrofit and enhancement initiatives to ensure stores meet sales objectives while executing on time and on budget.
Key Responsibilities
Support the execution of merchandise planning and store mapping initiatives, including periodic rebrands to drive newness and sales
Manage and execute multiple store retrofit and enhancement projects across varying timelines and scopes
Own master project timelines and ensure all deliverables are met
Maintain master databases of branded and animated space by store and fixture for a portion of the U.S. store fleet
Create new assortments and manage inventory start and stop dates at the brand level
Partner with regional and district leadership to align on field requests and final store maps
Collaborate cross-functionally with property development, procurement, retail operations, visual marketing, and inventory teams
Analyze brand productivity and performance by location to inform merchandising decisions
Maintain awareness of capital expenditure budgets and identify sales-driving and cost-saving opportunities
Qualifications
3+ years of experience working for a retailer, preferably in merchandising, operations, or a related field
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities under tight deadlines
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills required
Experience with space planning software such as Blue Yonder is a plus, but not required
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and making decisions without complete information
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Collaborative, proactive team player comfortable working across multiple levels of an organization
