Video Animation Designer (Freelance)
Location: Hybrid in NYC 2x per week onsite
We are looking for a Freelance Video Animation Designer to create compelling short-form video and motion content for high-visibility digital experiences. In this role, you will transform raw assets into engaging, on-brand stories across homepages, landing pages, and marketing placements. You’ll work on fast-turnaround projects and help champion video-first storytelling across a dynamic digital ecosystem.
What You’ll Do
-
Own day-to-day video editing for homepage and key digital placements, transforming raw footage into concise, polished clips optimized for web.
-
Design and execute motion treatments such as subtle animations, spins, transitions, and movement on key campaign imagery to elevate static designs.
-
Handle color correction, cleanup, and finishing across a range of video assets to maintain a cohesive, premium visual standard.
-
Develop simple motion graphics and animations (e.g., type treatments, animated overlays, image transitions) that support digital storytelling.
-
Collaborate with creative leads and cross-functional partners to interpret briefs, refine concepts, and deliver work aligned with brand and campaign objectives.
-
Support page builds as needed by preparing and optimizing assets for layouts, working closely with the broader digital design and production teams.
-
Contribute proactive creative ideas on new animation approaches, sequencing, and formats to boost engagement and performance.
Who You Are
- A hands-on video editor and motion designer who can take projects from raw footage through final delivery.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, iterative environment where priorities can shift and content updates happen frequently.
- Highly visual, with a strong sense of pacing, composition, color, and detail tailored to digital video formats.
-
Collaborative and responsive, open to feedback and direction while also contributing your own creative perspective.
- Passionate about (and ideally experienced in) fashion, retail, or lifestyle content, with a particular interest in visually-driven brand storytelling.
Required Skills & Experience
-
Video & Motion Tools: Proficiency in Adobe Premiere and/or Final Cut Pro, plus strong working knowledge of After Effects or comparable motion graphics software.
-
Motion Design: Ability to create clean, effective animations such as text treatments, image spins, transitions, and simple graphic overlays.
-
Post-Production: Experience with color correction, basic retouching/cleanup, and preparing video for web and digital channels.
-
Nice to Have: 3D capabilities (e.g., Blender or similar) are a plus but not required.
-
Experience Level: Approximately 1–2 years of relevant experience, or a strong portfolio that clearly demonstrates equivalent skill in video editing and motion design.
