Apparel Designer Overview:

As the Apparel Designer, you will be responsible for contributing to brand value as well as sales and profits with responsibility in apparel design creation, targeted for markets.

Apparel Designer Responsibilities:


•Contribute within the design team to formulate the seasonal theme through alignment of market and consumer trends    
•Conduct market and design research to better understand market evolutions and consumer trends    
•Prepare trend reports based on the analysis in consumer and retail insights to reflect the information on the design for the next season.  Be able to translate global trends into product direction    
•Continuously monitor and assess competitive models to ensure the client establishes key points of difference utilizing cutting edge technology, materials, color and aesthetic    
•Work within the global color pallet to provide color usage direction     
•Partner with Tech Designers to execute fit and construction of designs    
•Manage all seasonal design documents to ensure all information remains current and accurate        
•Prepare complete and comprehensive tech packs to provide detailed information to factories for sample development    
•Partner with Brand Managers and Associate Brand Managers to align on the Seasonal line plan direction    
•Provide relevant, innovative seasonal designs as guided by the line plan that deliver to a specific price point    
•Utilize factory production flow knowledge to create cost effective, production friendly products
•Initiate fabric research and new material development direction
•Create design capsule strategies and have ownership of product execution from concept to finished goods

 

Apparel Designer Qualifications:

•5 – 10 years of relevant industry experience
•Bachelor's Degree in Design – Apparel Design or related field     
•Illustrator and Photoshop experience

Other Qualifications

•Working knowledge of garment construction
•Working knowledge of fabrications
•Be able to meet all calendar deadlines by being prepared with all completed deliverables    
•Design and develop product that meets the planned financial goals as outlined in the line plan, in regards to target cost and margins
•Align with related product category needs and direction in footwear, hardgoods, and soft goods, to maximize brand impact    
•Ability to work together and contribute as part of the team        
•Drawing and rendering skills with an ability to verbalize ideas    
•Strong knowledge of art and design with a clear understanding of visual design concepts, including color mixing, color compatibility and color placement    
•Excellent design and color sense    
•Strong interpersonal,, written and verbal communications skills    
•Athletic background or participation in team sport a plus
•Graphic and/or print experience a plus
•Working knowledge of PLM systems a plus
