Intro
An exciting opportunity for a Design Assistant Global International Retailer/Wholesaler based in London. The overall purpose of this role is being responsible for assisting and supporting the Designer in all areas of their role and responsibilities helping to reflect the creative vision of the brand whilst delivering the commercial strategy of the business plan.
The Design Assistant must have gained knitwear experience within another retailer or brand either from minimum 1-2 years combined industry placement, permanent or freelance position. The candidate must have a particularly sharp eye for design, trend, colour & yarns. Strong hand drawing and Adobe Illustrator CAD drawing skills are necessary.
Main Responsibilities
Assist in creating mood boards which reflect the brands individual personality and give relevant members of all teams an insight into the creative vision for the season
Assist in designing individual pieces of the collection as directed by the Designer, working closely with Designer to complete spec sheets and technical packs
Create detailed specifications and colour-ups for any designs as briefed by the Designer
Creating & setting up front development sheets, spec sheets and knit down sheets each season for knit & swim designers
Ensure the spec packs are updated in a timely manor following any changes made during fit sessions /supplier meetings
Ensure all tasks are completed to the critical path dates to ensure an effective and timely sign off process
Assist with emailing and posting developments out to country offices as requested by line manager. Responsible for sending out developments to country offices
Assist designer with sending out knit and swim artwork developments to country offices. Responsible for setting up and updating the style board for knit & swim styles
Assisting creating CAD’s to see artworks,prints and colour ways
Uploading PLM information each season for knit area
Booking appointments with knit swatch/vintage companies Organising any knit trips
Giving comments and approvals on print strike offs received for proto/SMS and production stages for knit & swim styles, alongside print freelancer
Giving comments or approvals on colours, trim, fabric submissions from country offices on knit and swim styles
Responding to all email enquiries from the country offices
Organising showings each season – ordering hangers and getting shoes. Sending samples to sample sale
Creating colour palettes as directed by the Designers / Head of Studio / Creative and ordering pantones etc each season
Handling invoices for embellishment & knit swatches, vintage rentals, pantones etc Managing the knit intern, delegating jobs and ensuring they have things to do. Hiring interns
Seasonal research including mood, colour and materials to highlight key trends
Supplier visits on and offsite
Working to the critical path to ensure tech packs are sent out and received back within the dedicated timeline
Prepare CADS and Graphic artworks as directed
Preparing for meetings with the Designer, Creative Director, CEO, relevant business partners
The Person
A strong team player but also the ability to work on their own initiative
Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design Knitwear with a strong perspective on both Mens & Womens.
1-2+ years Design experience in placement role/permanent/freelance.
A fast learner, adaptive to fast paced environment
