Our client is a cruelty-free and vegan cosmetics brand. 

Global Marketing Director Responsibilities:

This role is responsible for creating a very strong innovation and animation plan, managing all aspects of product development, in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial atmosphere. You will lead the development of new and innovative products from formula to packaging development, while leading the overall timeline from ideation to on counter, strengthen the current portfolio by supporting and pushing our best sellers. You will also lead all regulatory and compliance aspects for the company.  A major element of this role is to build and drive innovation, launch products on time and within budget, of the highest quality, and within clean beauty guidelines.  Must demonstrate a unique blend of creativity, technical expertise, attention to detail, leadership skills and problem-solving capabilities. Finally, this role is highly cross-functional, so it is key that this person creates strong internal (Sales, Marketing, Quality, Education etc.) and external partnerships.
 

  • Develop 3-year product development strategies
  • Manage the product development process from concept to launch, overseeing product life-cycle from creating the marketing brief to delivery at the warehouse, including formula development, packaging development, COGs, and margin
  • Delivers brand strategy to ensure innovative product concepts, unique product positioning, ingredient, and formula storytelling, technical innovation, and on-time delivery
  • Responsible for regulatory for the company, in partnership with 3rd party regulatory consultants, including formula reviews, claims, EU dossiers, and international registrations
  • Be the primary contact with 3rd party labs to source innovative formulations by providing formula feedback and product expertise to support the product development process
  • Coordinate all required testing, including stability, compatibility, weight loss, transit tests, and line trials as needed
  • Travel as necessary to supervise formula development, shade matching, and product production
  • Responsible for sourcing of primary and secondary packaging and testing, including artwork development and approving standards
  • Continually keeps abreast of trends, latest launches, and competitor information to ensure the brand moves successfully within and ahead of the market
  • Build Strong animation to always support the core business and best-sellers
  • Guide and assist the team in overcoming hurdles as well as providing technical feasibility for new product concepts, manufacturing capabilities, and ingredient selection
  • Work closely with Quality Assurance to ensure all products meet high-quality standards
  • Coordinate market research, testing, and internal feedback on new and reformulated products
  • Conduct clinical and consumer efficacy claims testing and safety testing as required
  • Provide Marketing with product input, samples, and advice relating to marketing initiatives.
  • Ensure education and creative content is clear and accurate based on product efficacy claims testing and regulatory requirements
  • Liaise with purchasing team for costing, volumes and packaging as required in BOM’s
  • Negotiate/agree on deliverables, time frames, and constraints with Marketing and Sales, including issuing updates and alerts on any risks to ensure product availability is in line with commitments
  • Develop and maintain R&D and QA budgets and Cost of Goods targets

 
Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 10 years related experience in R&D, New Product Development, and Retail
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of new product development process with experience in regulatory, compliance, quality, and sourcing of components and packaging
  • Knowledge of formulation, ideally in skincare and color
  • An excellent color eye for developing large shade ranges
  • Keen ability to detect nuances in formulations
  • Experience in a creative product development role is essential
  • Experience in Retail is key
  • Extensive experience managing multiple projects and rapidly shifting priorities
  • Proven ability to impact and influence others
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment
  • Self-starter with the ability to function within a small team
  • Attention to detail combined with a thorough, meticulous method of working
  • Time management to meet tight deadlines
  • Flexibility to run with changes to timetables, schedules, and/or product changes
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to create and review technical documentation, including project plans, test procedures, and design documents
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments and key business partners
  • Ability and willingness to travel throughout the US, Canada, and Internationally as required.
