Job description

An exciting opportunity for a Multi Category Women’s Designer for a Global Brand based in London. This role reports into the Senior Designer with overall purpose of being responsible for supporting in all areas to reflect the creative vision of the brand whilst delivering the commercial strategy.

As Designer must have gained experience within women’s apparel within another retailer or brand either from minimum 3 years  multi category. An ability to design both soft and structured product, sketch by hand & illustrator, 3D stand work, CAD, with an eye for jersey & dresses as well as denim & washes.  Enthusiasm for prints, textiles & embroideries a plus. The ideal candidate has a love for fashion and is adaptable, flexible, and pro-active, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Multi-category design with a focus on Jersey and casual categories including Denim as as guided by Lead Designer and/or Consultant.  Design on other categories as needed by the business.
  • Gain sales momentum on above categories and develop proven track record on commercial sales and industry design success
  • Support in creating mood boards reflecting the brands individual personality
  • Support in creating a seasonal colour palette for the brand as directed by Lead Designer / Creative Director
  • Support in designing individual pieces of the collection as directed by the CD, lead designer, consultant
  • Create & Complete spec sheets and technical packs
  • Create CADs for any designs as briefed by the Lead Designer / CD
  • Ensure the spec packs are updated in a timely manner following any changes made during fit sessions / supplier meetings
  • Ensure all tasks are completed to the critical path dates to ensure an effective and timely sign off process
  • Seasonal research including mood, colour and materials to highlight key trends. Keeping abreast of up and coming trends, new ideas, fabrics, techniques, concepts.
  • Supplier visits on and offsite
  • Managing the critical path to ensure deadlines are met, (i.e., tech packs are sent out and received back within the dedicated timeline)
  • Prepare CADS, Graphic artworks, print artworks
  • Partner with Print & Graphic Designer(s) on Design print needs, based on Design direction
  • Preparing for meetings with the Heads of Department, Management and relevant business partners
  • Management of all PLM inputting and product development. From initial sketches through to final realisation
  • Create and maintain tech packs and BOMs. Continuously update and maintain the BOM on PLM throughout the product’s lifecycle
  • Work closely with the Garment Technologist, Product Development and Production partners to maintain consistency of quality and fit across the product range
  • Ensuring all elements of construction are correct for each garment, advising on improvements as/when needed
  • Launching product to suppliers, becoming Category point of contact for research & development communication
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships across the supply chain
  • Managing the proto sample schedule for all product, ensuring samples are delivered in time to meet all key milestones through development
  • Organising fabric orders for sampling, ensuring order is submitted on time as needed.
  • Managing design development process to ensure development partners are meeting deadlines
  • Organising all trim and material orders alongside PD partners for sampling
  • Produce and present thorough research, sketches, 3D, following Creative Director/Lead Designer/ consultant briefing, to develop multiple stories in the seasonal collections.
  • Work with pattern cutters to pass selected designs, following the development process and attending relevant fittings.
  • Responsible for collection overviews and design boards, ensuring smooth running of studio.
  • Recruiting & managing interns and/or design assistants to work with the design team.
  • Supporting on special projects, made in house, capsules and collaborations as required
  • Any additional support as needed by the business.

Ideal Candidate:

  • A strong team player but also the ability to work on own initiative
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion Design, womenswear all apparel categories with a strong perspective on spec’ing, mixed media., and ability to work on Stand.
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • 3 years Design experience ideally within a relevant brand (high street or premium / luxury)
  • A fast learner, adaptive to fast paced environment
  • Excellent working knowledge of relevant packages, such as Photoshop and Illustrator, CADs
  • Eye for Print, Textiles, Embroideries/Embellishments, Colour.
  • Must have a strong understanding for product, design, colour and the latest trends
  • Experience of performance/technical design advantageous
  • Solid understanding and a work track record of development cycles and critical paths
  • Experience working with (ideally in) factories and a detailed understanding of manufacturing techniques.
  • An excellent knowledge of garment construction methods, finishing, wash, dye and printing techniques essential
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm for fashion and creative industries
  • Team player who takes initiative and can handle fast paced environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and to handle multiple projects. 
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English
  • Passion for Responsible Design
