Our client is a leading high-street retailer within the UK, reaching across the Healthcare, Wellness and Beauty sectors.
With a solid background in all aspects of product design, you’ll have a proven track record of creating engaging brand experiences across multiple platforms. A keen eye for clean and simple design, possess superior UX skills that can translate high-level requirements into flows, functional prototypes and user experiences, using current design software.
You’ll be accountable for evolving brand guidelines and architecture into digital, scalable Design System(s) - which will underpin products and services across all touchpoints of the brand’s ecosystem, ensuring a coherent brand experience to millions of customers and colleagues.
On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be working closely with the creative and strategy teams to deliver a unified approach. And in this client-facing role, you’ll also need to be able to quickly grasp a brand’s architecture and their ambition and respond appropriately.
Key Responsibilities and Challenges
As Product Design Lead (UX/UI) you will have a chance to shape the transformation of one the UK’s biggest household brands. Your skill sets will need to cover but are not limited to:
Initial, Design System project requirements:
• Heavyweight UX-er
• Great UI and visual design skills, exceptional attention to detail
• Basic coding skills (bonus)
• Expert current industry software knowledge - Figma
• Experienced in setting up and scaling a Design System; establishing governance and
working with both internal and client teams to continue its growth
• Ability to interpret complex brand architecture into elegant digital design solutions
• Comfortable with working in an agile, collaborative environment with cross-functional teams, engaging with client stakeholders, leadership team and engineers
Longer term responsibilities & opportunities:
We are building out our product teams and offering, the role has huge scope to grow beyond the design system project. Future responsibilities would also include;
• Collaborate with strategy and creative to define and implement innovative solutions.
• Deeply understand and interrogate agency briefs and client business requirements to
drive towards a more robust and innovative solutions.
• Define and run detailed user research sessions with key customer demographics.
• Execute against all design stages from conceptual to final market testing.
• Conceptualize original ideas that bring simplicity and user friendliness to complex
design roadblocks.
• Ability to anticipate blockers or issues and seamlessly steer the team around them.
• Work seamlessly with 3rd party teams as you integrate solution into their platform.
• Present and defend designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive level
stakeholders.
• Establish and promote design guidelines, best practices and standards.
• Define and guard growing design systems across multiple application work streams.
• Champion best practice of usability and user-centric design.
• Seek to stay current with latest technology and holistic human interactions, seeking new opportunities to create unique experiences and innovations.
• Lead and direct a team of cross-disciplinary members with varying skills and abilities.
Requirements
• A portfolio demonstrating 7+ years of experience in Product (UX/UI) Design.
• Essential: Proven experience with and expert knowledge of Figma and Adobe CS.
• Portfolio - showcasing experience in creating design systems, ideally for a larger,
complex brand (core & sub-brands).
• Analytical, systems-oriented thinking with hands-on experience scaling design systems
• Other Product/Service design projects delivered in past years, calling out your role on the project, deliverables, responsibilities and successes achieved.
• Experience developing detailed, holistic user-flow specifications and design patterns
• Championing best-practice for Design Thinking and Human Centred Design.
• Showcase how your digital product solutions created value for the user (customer and business).
• Experienced in Hypothesis and Data driven design practices; User Research & Testing
processes.
• Strategic thinking; Product Roadmap-setting.
• Confidence working in isolation, in a wider design team and with client at any given moment throughout the process.
• Exceptional time management and prioritisation skills. Confidence in constructively reviewing direction against an agreed timeline. Ability to manage multiple, changing
needs, comfortable with agile ways of working.
• Excellent communication skills
• Familiarity with the technical considerations needed when designing for customer
experiences.
• Extensive experience building prototypes across multiple platforms and being agile
about the tools required to do so.
• Ability to drive the design review cycle and close on design requirements independently
