Job description

Our healthcare client, located in Chicago, is looking to add a UX Visual Designer to their growing digital team on a fulltime basis! This role is set to start ASAP and is responsible for the creation of useful and desirable web applications for the industrial internet of things. This person contributes to multiple user experience engagements as well as work on highly complex projects that require in-depth knowledge across multiple specialized business domains.

The UX Visual Designer Will:

  • Develop visual language studies that explore multiple approaches to the overall aesthetic of a product, with regard to brand and experience values and underlying product capability and behavior

  • Work with interaction designers and user interface developers to design the visual aspects of product user interfaces

  • Creates visual design specifications and documentation that provide detailed instructions for developers regarding typography, spacing, color and other aspects of a product's user interface

  • Creates multiple variations to a single design component to explore how different treatments meet design requirements and brand/experience goals

  • Explains and defends design decisions to other members of the project team including developers, product managers, marketers and other designers

  • Constructively participates in critiques of own design ideas and those of others

  • Designs new components to contribute to design systems, documents intended usage

  • Develops visual language studies that explore multiple approaches to the overall aesthetic of a product, with regard to brand and experience values and underlying product capability and behavior

  • Contribute to a visual and interaction design system used across software products

  • Communicate designs via wireframes, prototypes, guidelines, specifications, presentations and discussions

  • Participate in discussions relative to the future direction of design and user experience for the industrial internet of things

  • Participate in team discussions about current user experience design projects

  • Research and evaluate emerging design, technology, industry, and market trends

  • Share technical, procedural, and business knowledge with others.

  • Leverage your domain expertise; you are expected to further the knowledge and improve productivity of your colleagues with activities such as creating learning content, giving presentations, and supporting a continuous learning culture.

The UX Visual Designer Must Have/Be: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Design with minimum 4 years of experience

  • Ability to leverage typography, color, layout, composition and materiality to create visual interface designs that clearly and effectively express product capabilities and behaviors, as well as business and product brand values

  • Experience developing visual language studies, design specifications and documentation

  • Skilled in standard design tools (Adobe CC, OmniGraffle, Sketch), hand drawing and visual communication, familiar with time-based and interactive prototyping tools (Hype, Adobe Edge, Keynote)

  • Understands the implications of digital display and software technologies and for visual interface design

  • Demonstrates knowledge of business products, key processes, suppliers, customers and market/competitors. Understands the competitive landscape, regulatory marketing, etc.

  • Creates artifacts to facilitate shared understanding of business benefit for stakeholders

  • Works to create an understanding of how individual people and things fit within larger structures (like systems or organizations), as well as the relationships between parts of a system and the system as a whole

  • Continuously measures deliverables of self and team against scheduled commitments. Effectively balances different, competing objectives

  • Synthesizes information presented and can advise on next steps

  • Understands the value of a disciplined, rigorous and transparent approach to problem solving in a collaborative and matrixed environment
