Assistant Technical Designer

Leading North San Diego based Apparel company is currently looking for an Assistant Technical Designer to join their team!

Assistant Technical Designer
• Able to identify fabric and trim types, approve lab dips and production submits
• Maintain master body number log
• Maintain master spec library of “blocks”
• Maintain “how to measure” manual describing each measurement point (POM-point of measure); distribute to all factories
• Follow grade rules for all means, boys, preschool (juvy), toddler, infant, juniors, and girl styles, including custom size ranges per customer
• Ensure fit and quality standards are communicated to all necessary internal departments and external sources
• Measure all garment submits
• Communicate daily with factories overseas, giving directions, answering questions, clarifying points with photos, etc.
• Send art files to factories, create art specs, answer emails, etc., when Art Coordinator in our department is absent
• Prepare costing spec sheet for all new style developments from drawings, photos, or retail samples
• Create drawing of body in Adobe Illustrator
• Maintain body drawing library
• Keep up-to-date library of fabrics
• Evaluate fabrics and adjust specs for fabric to be used for each style
• Scan factory patterns to send to alternate factories to shorten development lead time and ensure that the same style/fit is consistent coming from multiple resources
• Provide feedback to factories on development samples, revise specs and sewing construction as needed. Track progress of development samples
• Any other duties that contributes to Product Development and merchandising
• Other duties assigned as needed

Competencies
The ideal candidate will have an analytical and detail-oriented mindset, have strong problem-solving and communication skills, be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, and have an understanding of the product development and apparel production process.

Qualifications
• Have an understanding of the product development and apparel production process
• Bachelor’s Degree in a related field preferred
• 1-3 years of Production/Product Development/Pattern making experience
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is a plus.
