Business Systems Analyst

Our client is a large, local insurance company looking for a Business Systems Analyst to join the team.  The Business Systems Analyst plays a vital role in supporting customers through technology. This person utilizes creative, flexible, critical thinking to analyze and resolve complex problems, processes, or support requests while driving continuous improvement. Overseeing and reporting system operational performance is key. The primary focus is partnering with customers to acquire necessary understanding of business objectives and processes and with IT to investigate new uses of existing data and systems to achieve competitive advantage and to implement technology changes to achieve short and long-term business goals.

Job Responsibilities: The Business Systems Analyst participates in small to very large project efforts to provide subject matter and application expertise; to gather data to inform impact analysis for business and IT; to perform validation of solutions to satisfy requirements, user needs, and business processes; to identify and documents defects; and to understand stages of testing. Duties may include responsibility for documenting business requirements; initiating maintenance requests; writing test cases; and managing end-user testing. The Business System Analyst helps team members grow their business, systems, and process knowledge and models superior customer focus, communication and collaboration. Documents system parameters and formats, ensures hardware, and software systems compatibility and coordinates and/or modifies systems parameters. Assists in formulating and defining small project/system scope and objectives and developing detailed systems specifications from which programs will be written and that fit with the Bank's system architecture standards. Participates in evaluating existing systems and procedures to identify deficiencies and maintain more effective data handling, conversion, input/output requirements, and storage. Assists with analyzing, developing and revising existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary. Works with IT team through coding and implementation to ensure product matches envisioned result. Assists in conducting feasibility studies and may participate in recommending new or enhanced applications software to meet business needs. Provides basic coordination and analytical assistance to staff which may include interpretation of requirements. Provides assistance in developing detailed requirements with business partners and system definition. Reviews, drafts, and outlines simple systems specifications, screen designs, and reports from which programs will be written and that fit with the Bank's system architecture standards. May support development of test scripts and participate in functional testing. May support maintenance of business systems and interface applications.

Skills/Qualifications: Verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, attention to detail and interpersonal skills. Strong ability to work independently and manage one’s time. Strong leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback. Strong knowledge of design techniques and principles involved in production of drawings and models. Strong knowledge of computer software, such as Visual Basic, Java, SQL, etc.

Basic proficiency in one or more of the following preferred: Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) Principals and Practices, Lean methodology, Microsoft Excel, database querying applications such as SQL Server and TOAD, VBA, HTML, CSS.

Education/Experience: Experience working in information technology in a financial services company, or working in a group insurance company with a technical background or combination of relevant education and/or experience. Bachelors degree required. 8-10 Years' Experience

Technical Skills Needed:

1. Clear communications skills

2. Super organized and excellent at documenting details

3. Adapt at drawing out requirement/detail from business users, facilitation skills important

4. SQL skills – so can read code, interpret what’s going on

5. Ability to understand a data model presented in IE format (Information Engineering notation “crow’s feet”) and translate to sql predicate logic

6. Data mapping skill – document from a “semantic” layer viewable in BOBI tool to physical data base

7. Experience using MSBI either to build reports or query analytic cubes as well as PowerBI knowledge is highly desired.
