Men's Senior Apparel Designer

San Diego based Lifestyle brand is looking for a Men’s Sr. Apparel Designer to join their team!

Essential Job Functions:

  • Research seasonal trends in activity, silhouette, color, fabric and trim
  • Work with the Design Director and Product Merchandise Manager to select and identify fabrics and trims for development, collaborate with Materials and Product Development to source
  • Provide input and feedback to Textile, Print & Graphic team to inform development of all over, placement, graphic prints and yarn-dye patterns (layout, colorway pitch, scale)
  • Articulately convey product concepts to internal teams for adoption and approvals
  • Prepare all inspiration and trend boards, thumbnail concept sketches, technical line drawings
  • Manage and ensure updates to CADs/line drawings are completed with accuracy throughout development season
  • Prepare and complete with accuracy all initial tech packs: technical line drawings, detail drawings, bill of materials, trim and label packages, seam construction and preliminary fit intention and garment dimensions
  • Participate in fittings and partner with Technical Design team to achieve consistent brand fits that meet design aesthetic vision, customer expectations and return rate objectives
  • Working within the established color palette, prepare color ups for each style for selection and approval
  • Create, manipulate and recolor in-house artwork, textile designs/graphics/ prints and embroidery when needed
  • Partner with product development team to ensure on-time style development from initial techpack through pre-production fit approval
  • Establish strong working relationship with merchandising & product development team to achieve margin goals, cost targets through use of appropriate style details, fabrications and construction
  • Support the brands product team in the creation of presentation and visual tools for sales meetings, seasonal kick-off meetings, pre-lines or in-house dealer presentations
  • Share knowledge, expertise with other team members, mentor junior team or interns
  • Attend relevant trade shows, travel to vendors, suppliers and key accounts as requested
  • Meet all design and product development calendar deadlines

Minimum Job Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in fashion design
  • 7+ years of design experience in the Men’s Sportswear, Outdoor, Active apparel industry across product categories
  • Proven track record of designing and commercializing product concepts that meet customer expectations and business objectives
  • Deep understanding of outdoor, active, sportswear market and competitor landscape
  • Personal experience and understanding of the feel and fit of outdoor, active apparel
  • Munsell color test results
  • Portfolio a must, design project required
