Merchandise Assistant

Position Overview: 
Position based in New York, NY. Overall must be flexible, eager, passionate, seeking growth, and exposure to all areas of the business. Must be vocal, detail-oriented, results-driven, proactive, and demonstrate strong communication skills.

Responsible for sample maintenance and organization in New York office, as well as collaborating with teams in other offices for all merchandising sample needs. Will be required to attend development, packaging, business, and milestone meetings. Being an active participant in all meetings with the goal and opportunity to eventually own product categories independently.


  • Perform daily activities that support Merchandising strategies and assists in the creation of a simple and compelling product presentation that will inspire the Stylist/Customer to buy
  • Assist in the management of seasonal product assortment, merchandise point of view, seasonal strategies, and promotional plans
  • Understand basic components of driving a business based on daily and weekly sales, margin performance and focus group findings. Works with manager to react to business in a timely manner
  • Responsible for Weekly Business Reports
  • Develop the ability to recap business and articulate learnings to team and cross-functional partners
  • Assist with in-season management, including Midsights/Hindsights
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate files each season (Talking Points, Recommended/Discontinued Lists, Pricing File, TM1, Assortment sheets, Line Sheets)
  • Responsible for timely workflow of deliverables and timelines
  • Sample Coordination
  • Communicate changes in merchandise assortments and messaging to the appropriate members of the cross-functional team on a timely basis; actively listen to all members of the cross-functional team to ensure that tasks are well integrated
  • Build strong partnerships with other members of the cross-functional team and brand counterparts
  • Create an open communication with brand counterparts by attending divisional/cross functional meetings
  • Develop presentation skills in appropriate forums
  • Demonstrate strong teamwork skills through cooperating with cross-functional teams
  • Build relationships with Marketing, PD, Production, Design, PR, Field Development, Customer Service center & Planning


  • Possess a working knowledge of financial measurements
  • Possess a strong sense of urgency, along with the ability to prioritize projects when necessary
  • Possess strong listening, verbal and written communication skills, including follow-up communication to supervisor and/or cross-functional partners
  • Develop a point of view about product assortment and business opportunities
  • Analyze a problem and formulate a logical rationale for the decision
  • Maintain a cooperative team environment that promotes high performance standards and attainment of goals
  • Demonstrate the organizational ability to facilitate multi-tasking in a fast paced, evolving environment
  • Possess computer literacy and facility with Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Merchandise Assistant or equivalent
  • Ability to transport, maneuver and visually evaluate merchandise
