Merchant - Color

Our client is San Francisco-based startup boasting the largest clean beauty assortment in skincare and makeup is looking for a talented, experienced merchant to join their team. They are a trusted voice in an unregulated beauty industry and is a recognized pioneer in clean beauty retail. 

This position is part of the Merchandising & Planning team. The Color Merchant is responsible for driving strategy and execution of merchandising functions for all channels of business.

Position Responsibilities

  • Launch calendar & pipeline
  • Lead regular business reviews with brands
  • Sourcing & launching new brands (review all brand submissions within category)
  • Discontinue unproductive brands
  • Negotiate end of life strategy for discontinued brands/products
  • Open to Buy management [in partnership with planning]
  • Purchase Order Management
  • Newness planning & purchase order creation
  • Strategically deliver strong results on KPIs including sales, gross margin, assortment productivity, and newness performance
  • Actionable reporting and weekly/monthly analysis of above metrics
  • Cross Functional Expertise
  • Guide brand marketing strategy in partnership with marketing, digital, & creative teams
  • Ensure operational excellence at store and warehouse levels via store & planning teams
  • Oversee store display & planogram process
  • Provide timely guidance and approvals on display layouts
  • Manage store assortments and provide visual direction to store teams

Skills and Experience Requirements
• 6-10 years of merchandising experience, beauty experience required, color experience strongly preferred
• Passion for beauty- is knowledgeable about brands & trends and seeks to continuously stay informed in the space
• Has an eye for product; understands & can execute within the aesthetic and customer base
• Entrepreneurial, self-starter, and resourceful- someone who will thrive in a highly dynamic, fast-paced environment
• Proven ability to build relationships, work effectively independently, and in a team environment
• Honed presentation skills; confidence in presenting point of view in multiple forums, including at the leadership level.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills, strong negotiation skills
• High level of proficiency with Excel including comfort with advanced formulas & pivot tables, ability to build replicable & scalable tools & reports
• Detail-oriented, outstanding organizational and analytical skills
