Packaging Engineer

Packaging Engineer: Portland, OR

The Packaging Engineer is responsible for supporting the Design Engineering process and managing the execution of packaging designs into production within the Design Studio. The candidate will play a major role in organizing and maintaining standards within the files and system while coordinating deliverables with other departments outside of Engineering.  The Packaging Engineer supports the Packaging Design Engineer during the design development process with a focus on supporting the Designer in finding improved customer satisfaction through reduced costs, quality defects, and environmental footprint.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support and Coordinate the technical aspects of package development, including but not limited to working with teams in Asia to determine available materials and manufacturing capabilities
  • Manage assigned Package Development projects, working with the project team, (Design, Graphics, Project and Account Management,) to meet category objectives and project due dates
  • Preliminary analysis of Design Packaging for sustainability and form and function throughout the supply chain
  • Communicate technical issues and details to the project team and management
  • Provide technical data for package design and assure package is designed for manufacturing acceptability and assembly while realizing desirable aesthetic elements
  • Prioritize, manage, quantify, track, and report all assigned projects
  • Record packaging material attributes and specifications
  • Finalize die lines for Graphic build within ArtiosCAD
  • Scale production die lines within ArtiosCAD
  • Ownership and Maintenance of Structure Library files
  • Operate cutting table - cut and assemble CAD samples and mock-ups
  • Evaluate and Test Packaging components for functionality and client presentation
  • Preliminary analysis and resolution of production issues, counterfeit claims, and sample presentation
  • Preliminary Packaging design work
  • Provide support in a cross-functional manner with other departments when presented with quality issues related to packaging
  • Continuously improve existing methods and processes to facilitate efficient delivery of high quality and timely products to customers

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, Packaging or equivalent experience
  • 2-3 years Packaging experience (preferred)
  • Beginner to Intermediate experience with Artios CAD
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Cloud Suite
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Generally hands-on yet analytical with adequate verbal and visual communication skills e.g. basic hand sketching when needed
  • Capable of creating written reports, proposals and project documentation
  • Is naturally solutions-oriented, organized, and a team player
  • Intermediate to advanced math skills
  • Ability to remain accurate while working in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary project team
  • Knowledge of packaging manufacturing processes, product designs, safety, quality, and workflow needs a plus
  • Packaging design/engineering, industrial design, paper craft or related experience and background a plus
