JOB DESCRIPTION – ROCK GYM COACH:

Rock Gym is a unique environment serving employees at the World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon. The Rock Gym has a solid base of climbers eager to grow in their ability and who desire to be challenged in and out of the gym. Rock Gym Coaches core responsibilities fall into three categories: Community development, risk management and gym operations. Coaches shape the fabric of this community and overall climbing experience through member engagement, quality route setting, instruction, and through a positive attitude.

Coaches are afforded the opportunity to grow in their climbing, setting and instruction while working with a team that allows them to experience the full spectrum of an indoor climbing gym; You get to do it all.

QUALIFICATIONS: · 2+ years climbing experience · 2 years’ experience working in an indoor climbing facility and/or outdoor climbing guide · Climbing instruction background with ability to teach belay, lead climbing and technical movement classes · Experience setting and forerunning V4/5.10 · Great communication and customer services skills essential · Positive attitude and ability to adapt to changing priorities · Team player, reliable and committed · Youth coaching and instruction background highly desired · Climbing Wall Instructor certification preferred (PCIA or AMGA) CORE RESPONSIBILITIES: · Community development: · Welcome, greet, and register members and guests in a friendly, expedient, and courteous manner. · Seek to learn customers’ names so they feel welcomed and remembered. Make personal connections whenever possible. · Exhibit body language and conduct consistent with the Rock Gym’s mission and purpose. · Communication with customers via phone and email should be effective, professional and returned promptly. · Teach or co-teach core climbing courses for members. · Risk management: · Continually monitor users and the area for safety. · Enforce rules and regulations in an even and fair manner while maintaining the highest levels of user safety. · Fix loose or broken holds as quickly as conditions allow. · Understand and enforce proper use of equipment. · Maintain visibility and awareness of all gym users · Gym operations · Effectively balance competing priorities of your role with our members as the priority. · Arrive to work on time, well-groomed and in appropriate uniform including nametag. · Maintain all records with detail and organization. · Attend and participate in staff meetings as scheduled. · Connect with the broader Athletic Center and be willing to help with tasks and activities · Proactively maintain a clean and functional workplace while participating in daily maintenance tasks. · Provide equipment to guests as needed and ensure proper fit and appropriate use. · Be a team player; recognize the skills of other staff members and be willing to help as needed. HOURS: · Average of 30 hours per week. · Availability to work mornings, evenings, and weekend. · Regular weekly schedule plus the ability to pick up sub shifts
