Sr Technical Designer

Senior Technical Designer – Freelance 
The Senior Technical Designer oversees all aspects of technical design in a range of assigned styles within the scope of this 90-day freelance project. Upon the conclusion of a successful engagement, there is opportunity for further collaboration. 

Responsibilities Include: 
• Executing day-to-day duties of a technical designer including communicating with overseas vendors, analyzing samples for fit and construction, conducting fittings, furthering the vision for each individual product. 
• Working closely with executive team, internal production team, and overseas factories to ensure that the technical development of samples and the application of high-quality standards relating to fit, construction, product performance, and comfort are achieved. 
Overview of Project: 
• Update three existing styles to maternity fit 
• Fit five new styles from initial sample to JSS 
• Revise ten existing styles with minor fit and aesthetic changes (sleeve length, neck detail, lapel change, drape improvement, etc.) 
• Revise and fit five first/sending proto (stage) garments 

Key Accountabilities: 
• Update base size product specifications and POMs based on design revisions / sample / fit iterations / vendor collaboration 
• Assign and approve grading, both men’s and women’s 
• Evaluate fit and pre-production samples for measurements, fit, construction, and overall quality 
• Ensure product quality and fit consistency 
• Communicate extensively via written reports and AI illustrations to factory after each sample 
• Oversee and ensure all timeliness impeccably according to T&AC deadlines / prevent delays

Skills / Abilities / Experience & Qualifications: 
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional work experience 
• Extensive experience in technical design management and tailored garment manufacturing - minimum 10 years 
• Moderate to extensive knowledge of electronic pattern software, Optitex preferred 
• Technical knowledge of fabrics, trims, and all sewing techniques / machines 
• Understanding of Time & Action Calendars specific to products being developed 
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented, collaborative environment 
• Able to adjust priorities to meet team deadlines 
• Experience working in a PLM system / willing to learn new software products 
• Organizational skills necessary to handle multiple tasks that require on time completion 
• Detail oriented with pride in attention to accuracy 
• Ability to see and distinguish color, tone, texture, and print and able to use fine motor skills to execute technical design elements 
Time Commitment: 
• Commitment dates from 8/20 - 11/20 (possibly shorter or longer depending on approved garments and factory lead time) 
• No set schedule 
• Need (at minimum) 20 hours / week dedicated to project, 10 hours / week at our headquarters 
• Use of property (laptop, software etc.) is fully authorized 
• Fittings will be scheduled according to fit-model availability during business hours
