Visual Designer

The Visual Designer is instrumental in creating beautiful, informative visuals that help communicate the work, processes and educational materials from the Experience Design team. This talented person has a knack for assembling existing information in a captivating way, including storyboarding, visualizing process flows and visualizing data. 

The Experience Design team works on a variety of projects from high-level, long-term conceptual work to quick-turn digital projects. This team consists of a tightly knit group of individuals with strong communication skills and the ability to challenge existing designs in pursuit of customer satisfaction. This team of researchers and Experience Managers needs a Visual Designer as a partner to present the team’s work with polish and clarity. The team also works to promote Human Centered Design principles throughout the company, and the Visual Designer will collaborate to make educational materials to support this mission. Always willing to roll up sleeves and get to work, the Visual Designer thinks strategically in support of usability best practices and cross-pollinates with colleagues to deliver elevated experiences that challenge the status quo, with the user always in mind. 

Minimum Requirements 
Competencies and Knowledge: 

Strong focus on designing for interactive environments. Strong focus on graphic design in digital media with emphasis on illustration, typography, layout, and design for high-level presentations and passionate about well-crafted experiences that augment and compliment the product’s function. 

Knowledgeable and savvy of current experience design practices with storyboarding, design, presentation tools. 

Strong portfolio demonstrating storyboarding, illustration, diagramming and presentation design. 

Excellent people skills and flexibility in dealing with changing schedules and multiple points of view. Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills. Ability to articulate design choices and present work to key stakeholders. 

Ability to think both tactically and strategically, including high levels of self-direction, innovation and imagination. 

Has a keen eye for details and strong proofing skills to ensure digital and print communications follow corporate brand standards. 

Able to work with a team of designers to successfully translate concepts into insightful, compelling communications and content that drive awareness, understanding, engagement and action—on brand. 

Able to implement and support senior staff and the greater strategy of the team. 

Able to implement and support senior staff on complex and simple projects, supports the great strategy of the team. 

Demonstrates design expertise and advanced skills in their respective skillset. 

Ability to think both tactically and strategically, including high levels of self-direction, innovation and imagination. 

Normally to be proficient in the competencies listed above: 

Visual Designer would have a bachelor’s degree in UX/UI/Experience Design or related field and 3+ years of experience in UX design or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Required Licenses, Certifications, Registration, Etc.: None 

General Functions and Outcomes : 

Creates process flow visuals for both customer journeys and internal processes. 

Storyboards customer scenarios with efficient but effective illustrations. 

Creates presentations that capture the greater team’s work. 

Creates educational materials. 

Creates presentation templates and guidelines and assists other team members in complying with recommendations. 

Works to improve user-centered research skills and stays current with industry trends for best-in-class user experiences. 

Provides technical and design support for other design staff. 

Works with product teams and marketing managers to identify design goals and requirements and work with leadership on design reviews. 

Maintains proficiency in current tools and practices, while investigating new methods. 

Knows and effectively targets the member and their experience. Understands their likes/dislikes and how they interact with virtual technologies—achieved through independent research and active participation in UX testing and studies. 

Works closely with other designers to execute an integrated approach. 

Works on small-scale projects with review from senior level, also supports senior staff on larger, complex projects.
