Salary: $100,000

Our client, a consumer products company that brings fun and trendy products to stores all around the US. They manufacture custom items and source trendy, fun, and best-selling merchandise for any gift store, souvenir shop, and exciting destination.

Job Purpose:

The Art Director manages the Art Department team members to complete all designs for products, packaging, presentations, and printed material. This role is a hands-on design leader who ensures that all creative output reflects the company’s aesthetic and brand positioning, while modeling quality graphic design, mentoring and developing the design team, guiding the creative process from concept to execution, and collaborating closely with internal teams to drive innovation and consistency across all consumer touchpoint.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Lead, manage, and develop the Art Department team, including hiring, onboarding, coaching, performance reviews, scheduling, and, when necessary, corrective action or termination.
• Provide clear creative direction and hands-on guidance throughout the design process, ensuring high standards of creativity, accuracy, and production quality.
• Oversee all phases of design development—from concept through final production—ensuring projects are delivered on time and meet brand and customer requirements.
• Manage department workflows, project timelines, and workloads to maintain efficiency, accountability, and consistent on-time delivery.
• Partner closely with Sales, Product Development, Merchandising, and Marketing teams to ensure creative output supports sales goals, product strategy, and customer needs.
• Participate in internal and external meetings, including presentations with sales teams and select customers, to ensure designs meet customer expectations and market requirements.
• Mentor team members by fostering collaboration, skill development, strong communication, and ownership of work.
• Oversee freelance designers, as needed, based on workloads or varying design aesthetics.
• Stay current on product trends as well as design, color, and packaging trends within the consumer goods industry, translating insights into actionable creative direction.
• Contribute to additional projects and initiatives as needed to support the overall health and success of the business.

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Art, Graphic Design, Commercial Art, or a related field
• 10+ years of professional graphic design experience, preferably within consumer products
• 3–5+ years of experience managing and mentoring graphic designers and/or artists
• Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to develop talent and hold teams accountable
• Excellent time management and organizational skills; comfortable managing multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) on Mac
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional partners
• High level of motivation, professionalism, and commitment to delivering quality work that exceeds customer expectations

Physical Requirements:

• Sedentary work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
