Job description

The essential role of this position is to lead, develop, inspire and evaluate the product development and design teams by providing excellent creative review and clear constructive feedback. The Creative Director creates an environment where brand, message, performance, quality improvement and craft of design are of primary focus by establishing branding guidelines and delivering designs that fulfill a brand promise and support brand values. The position includes but is not limited to the following duties and is subject to change to organizational needs: Job Responsibilities & Key Emphasis Key Emphasis indicates the relative importance of each of the responsibility areas. +++ Most Important ++ Important + Needed Creative Direction (+++) ? Lead creative brainstorming sessions for creative development and execution ? Develop creative programs and design concepts that meet the business objectives of the organization and that advance our brand strategy ? Conceptualization of creative/branding solutions from concept to completion of product ? Establish creative direction for the entire line of products ? Differentiate company from its competitors by its innovative and high quality creative work ? Serve as an educational resource to the organization in areas of new and innovative creative work including trends in our industry, digital, social, etc. ? Determine and communicate the best ways for company to visually represent our company’s identity through its products. ? Demonstrated ability to communicate abstract and complex aesthetics of product concepts in color and design for consumer products to internal teams, vendors and customers. ? Interpret latest trends in retail sales, product placement, digital and social messaging and strategy. ? Lead the creative process from concept to execution. ? Conceptualize & develop innovative products, ads, digital to position company as a thought leader in the industry Leadership (+++). ? Create and establish current and long range product strategy based on market opportunity and consumer insights aimed at keeping the organization in the forefront of change within the industry. ? Lead the development and roadmap of new robust products and product lines strategy. ? Ensure the evolution, enhancements and management to existing products that supports the strategic business objectives and create competitive advantage and ensure that they are positioned right, in the market. ? Development of the Strategic Plan for the Design Department and ensure effective implementation ? Continually builds on business and leadership skills, and serves as a strategic partner to business owners. ? Possesses excellent communication skills and ability to create consensus around new ideas and initiatives, building confidence in the outcome. ? Leadership of creative strategy, vision and execution across multiple departments and sales channels using innovative and fresh thinking. ? Provide leadership to the entire organization in the area of creative design and innovation ? Supervise and inspire the creative team of designers, writers and product development personnel. Design & Development (++) ? Set design parameters and stylistic guidelines that are consistent with our brand ? Manage teams to handle multiple projects from concept through completion ? Develop high level concepts for design projects that are appropriate for the different sales channels by working with sales, design, and merchandising teams ? Establish appropriate prioritizations of product initiatives to ensure optimization and customer value of new and existing products to increase sales and profitability goals. ? Monitor teams achievement Key Performance Indicator (KPI) goals for each product ? Work across cross-functional teams, including sales, merchandising, social media, and marketing to ensure products are effectively executed, launched and supported in a rapid development environment. ? Adapt current processes and improve/streamline for additional effectiveness. ? Develop and maintain a high quality and consistent brand recognition for company in the marketplace Financial (++) ? Oversee budget, forecast, vendor negotiations, packaging, testing and compliance. ? Review and monitor costs to ensure budgets are being adhered to. Skills & Interests ? Knowledge & maintained interest in art, design, retail & manufacturing of consumer products. ? Undergraduate degree in Fine Arts, Business or related field or equivalent visual design and management experience required ? A strong working knowledge of design, brand development and creative process ? Ability to supervise and train employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments ? 5 to 8 years experience plus in management with background in design, color development and/or product development ? At least 8+ years overall experience in the design industry. ? Ability to think creatively, take calculated risks and adapt to frequent change ? Ability to uncover customer insights and translate them into an effective product development program ? Demonstrated success managing priorities and personalities and best path for development in cross-functional teams from concept to completed product ? Must be a team player, detail-oriented and able to keep up with a fast paced, dynamic environment. ? Self-motivated and entrepreneurial sense of ownership and responsibility for the business. ? Excellent verbal and written communication skills. ? Superior computer software design skills, including expert level Adobe CC. Position Objectives and Success Measurements As the leader of the creative team, the ultimate success of the position is measured by, or linked with, contributions made to the following key areas: (1) Conceptualization, design, development & execution of product that is innovative, brand right, highly saleable & meets the overall business objectives of company. (2) Lead the team in development of products and design attributes that focus on optimizing consumer value in each of the sales channels and social channels. (3) Apply creative direction in product design to ensure that company is differentiated from its competitors as a result of highly innovative, trend driven consumer products.
