The Junior Product Manager will support the modernization of internal products and tools used by operations teams. In this freelance role, you will help deliver intuitive, efficient, and scalable product experiences that improve day-to-day operations and enable teams to better serve customers.
Working closely with senior product managers, UX designers, engineers, and business stakeholders, you’ll assist in translating user needs and business objectives into clear, actionable product work. This role is ideal for an early-career product professional who is organized, curious, and eager to grow within a fast-paced, data-driven environment.
This is an on-site, W2 contract position that is eligible for benefits.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Planning (Approx. 25%)
- Participate in discovery activities to understand operational workflows, pain points, and unmet needs.
- Assist in translating business objectives and user insights into product goals, features, and basic roadmaps.
- Help define and track simple product success metrics (e.g., adoption, task completion time, error rates).
- Support backlog organization and prioritization, ensuring work items are clearly documented.
- Conduct light research on industry trends and competitive products to inform recommendations.
- Partner with senior product managers to balance user value, operational efficiency, and business outcomes.
Delivery & Execution (Approx. 50%)
- Collaborate with UX and engineering teams to refine requirements and break features into user stories.
- Draft, update, and prioritize user stories and acceptance criteria for sprint and release planning.
- Participate in agile ceremonies (stand-ups, refinement, planning, demos, retrospectives).
- Support user research, usability testing, and pilot programs; synthesize feedback into backlog updates.
- Identify dependencies, tradeoffs, and potential risks across features and releases.
- Prepare basic documentation, release notes, and stakeholder updates using clear, non-technical language.
Team & Stakeholder Collaboration (Approx. 25%)
- Act as a liaison between product, engineering, UX, operations, and internal partners.
- Ensure requirements, timelines, and dependencies are clearly communicated across teams.
- Advocate for end users by grounding decisions in real-world workflows and feedback.
- Gather stakeholder input, help clarify priorities, and support expectation-setting around scope and delivery.
- Contribute to a culture of agile best practices, continuous improvement, and data-informed decision-making.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Foundational understanding of digital and/or agile product development.
- Demonstrated interest in product management, user experience, or digital tools through coursework, projects, or internships.
- Willingness to learn how to:
- Translate user and business needs into product requirements.
- Use tools such as JIRA, Confluence, wireframing tools, and analytics platforms.
- Work within agile teams and iterative release cycles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Product Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business, or a related field.
- Experience (internship, academic project, or junior role) supporting digital products, internal tools, or technology platforms.
- Basic familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, dashboards, analytics platforms).
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, and operations.
