Freelance, Part-Time — Onsite 2–3 full days per week in West LA
A fast-growing, trend-forward fashion brand known for delivering the latest must-have styles in contemporary Women’s Ready-to-Wear is seeking a seasoned Technical Designer to join the team in a part-time capacity. This role is ideal for a detail-obsessed professional who thrives in a fast-paced fashion environment and is comfortable working onsite.
Position Overview – Technical Designer (Part-Time)
As the Technical Designer, you will be the expert behind the precision—owning the fit, quality, and construction process from development through production. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional partners and vendors to ensure every garment in the collection meets exacting standards of fit, function, and quality while maintaining development timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the technical design process across seasonal collections, ensuring each garment meets high standards of fit, function, and quality.
- Create and manage detailed fit comment documents addressing garment specs, fabric performance, construction, stitch, and trim execution.
- Accurately measure samples to identify inconsistencies, issue clear fit comments, and help maintain development and production timelines.
- Drive fit sessions in collaboration with cross-functional teams, offering strategic recommendations to improve garment execution and consistency.
- Provide vendors with precise grading guidelines and ensure a consistent fit across all size ranges.
- Own the sample approval process, thoroughly evaluating fit, measurements, construction, hanger appeal, and performance.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work onsite 2–3 full days per week in West LA while managing part-time hours.
Qualifications
- Degree in Technical Design, Product Development, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of technical design experience in contemporary or Ready-to-Wear categories.
- Advanced knowledge of garment construction, pattern-making, and fit for both woven and knit apparel.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Excel.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills with a collaborative, solutions-driven mindset.
- Proven ability to manage details meticulously while working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven fashion environment.
