Job description

Our well-known client, a key player in the retail space, is looking to add a UI/Digital Designer to support their digital team on a long-term freelance basis. This role can be remote (however Chicago candidates preferred), will be 40 hours a week and can be up to 2 year contract,  with potential to go fulltime. 

Responsibilities: 

  • This is a UI oriented role primarily focused on MOBILE WEB, although there will be opportunities work on both App and Web. 
  • For candidates qualified as Product Designers, there may also be opportunities for UX design work. 
  • This contractor will augment team’s current capacity, to support roadmap work primarily in the Retail space. 
  • This is truly an omnichannel design opportunity since most transactions that start online end up on store 
  • This contractor will work alongside other UX/UI designers and copywriters on team and partner closely with business owners, product owners, business analysts and developers when crafting innovative design solutions.
  • Collaboration is a huge part of this role. 
     
Qualifications: 
  • Must have 3-5 years experience designing digital experiences that have retail / ecommerce customers as the primary user Wire-framing and building interactive digital prototypes 
  • Mobile Platforms – Android and iOs (design guidelines, understand at high level)
  • Design Workflow tools (in change period, current set is broad – Sketch, Zeppelin, Envision, Adobe Cloud – but looking to migrate into new platform called Figma)
  • Translating within specific design systems for branding/UI – taking guidelines and creating transactional flows Visual design skills Strong skills in persuading others, strong customer first focus
  • 3-5 years of experience; degree in Human Computer Interaction is preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor's degree in design required. “Bootcamp” UX programs (designation, general assembly, flatiron, etc.) do not qualify unless they are on top of a college degree in design or if the candidate has at least 3 years
  • To be considered for this role candidates must demonstrate: 
    • At least 2 years of solid, hands on design experience 
    • A portfolio that contains real design work that has been put into production 
    • A portfolio that contains interactive prototypes (or links to prototypes) 
    • Strong presentation and communication skills 
    • A formal design education or a minimum of 5 years proven design experience
    • A strong online portfolio containing multiple examples that are presented with depth 
    • A portfolio that contains interactive prototypes (or links to prototypes) 
    • Enthusiasm and a Curiosity for solving problems 
    • Experience working for larger companies / with larger teams is a plus
