Our client, a growing brand in the wellness space, has an opportunity for a highly experienced, full-time Art Director to join the team here in  beautiful San Pedro, CA office. The role is onsite 4 days a week. This role reports to the Creative Director.
 

This important position leads a team of multidisciplinary designers across projects, working closely with both producers, narrators and writers to deliver well-crafted and innovative creative. This role drives design excellence and collaboration across projects, ensuring that the team delivers coordinated creative against the annual strategy. The Art Director coaches designers and creates opportunities for individual development, performance management, recognition and rewards while encouraging and leading innovative thinking, collaboration and partnership. Duties & Responsibilities:

Work with the Creative Director and Sr. Designers to develop visual directions aligned against seasonal to year-long narratives

Drive the Art Direction with Design teams, providing inspiration, guidance, support and direction

Encourage excellence, ambition, and team spirit

Deliver best-in-class art direction through photography, video content, and digital design

Closely collaborate with narrative, writers, digital designers and producers to create the best storytelling  across digital and physical platforms

Develop and maintain relationships with internal marketing partners and external creative partnerships – photographers, filmmakers, illustrators, designers, and their agents for editorial creative, working strategically with other leads in the business to ensure the strongest approach to external talent

Define art direction for video shoots, ensuring our content is always on-brand, diverse, dynamic, and resonates with culture

Work closely with Creative Director, Media Director and Production team to execute smooth, efficient productions that meet business objectives

Keep up to date with emerging trends in fashion, design, film, art, media and technology as relevant to and the design team

Collaborate with styling, marketing, tech, retail, photography and editorial to lead teams through creative concept process and projects

Ensure all projects are well-planned, creatively exceptional, on strategy and delivered on-time and within agreed budgets

Promotes needs for training and development, coaching and mentoring

Review project work for highest standards of quality, consistency and success

 

Skills & Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor/Master’s degree in Design or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Minimum 7+ years design and art direction experience in a branded content, agency, editorial or marketing environment

A strong portfolio of relevant work, exhibiting background in digital and editorial design

Deep knowledge and expertise in all aspects of layout, typography, illustration, identity, digital and experience production and publishing across formats and platforms

Thorough understanding of today’s creative landscape and how people engage with content from digital products to environments and experiences

Strong collaboration abilities to creatively partner with internal and external teams

Experience across commercial and editorial environments, with ability to bridge a connection between business needs, creative vision, and consumer interests

Proven ability as a manager and mentor, with passion for developing everyone on the team to grow, improve, succeed, and advance toward collective and individual goals

Experience in Packaging system design and and packaging production process

Strong understanding of best practices in file construction, asset organization, and print production as well as digital.
