Job Summary
Our client is a skincare brand based on hydration as the essence of great skin care. The R&D Manager will be accountable for the development of new products and in support of new and existing product lines. A key emphasis for the job is on developing product solutions that redefine consumers’ expectations and set the standard for a new era of global personal care product innovations.
Responsibilities
• Directs all product research and development
• Identifies, develops, evaluates and optimizes new technology platforms and cosmetic
formulations that lead to unique consumer preferred products
• Identifies, develops and supports new product claims
• Supervises contract manufacturing laboratory development process via weekly calls and as
needed
• Provides scientific leadership and tactical support to the team that results in the resolution of
technical or operational issues
• Leads submission receipt and technical evaluation of all formula submissions
• Recommends and investigates usage of new materials, responsible for suggesting product
innovation
• Reviews key documents, such as development reports, SOPs, regulatory documents, etc
• Develops raw material and formula specifications
• Maintains product timeline tasks as assigned in DAPTIV
• In Partnership with Regulatory, evaluates international and national regulations to ensure
Company products meet all required standards and registration requirements
• Interacts with Regulatory & Quality Manager to ensure global product compliance
• Facilitates communication of project timelines with Contract Manufacturing, Packaging, Quality
and Project Management
• Evaluates market trends and competitive products. Benchmarks and analyzes competitive
product for comparative standards
• Responsible for managing internal product communication and provides alternative production
solutions as required
• Responsible for all NPD and Reformulation Stability, Compatibility, PET, RIPT and other testing
as assigned
• Assists in gathering, organizing, and delivering Regulatory information to product development,
marketing, R&D, QA, manufacturing, contract manufacturer, and outside laboratories.
• Reviews all new and updated ingredient listing declaration for all products
Qualifications and Skills
• Minimum 10 years related industry experience, preferable in personal care/cosmetics
• Possesses extensive formulation knowledge in wide range of personal care and cosmetics
products (including emulsion-based systems such as gels, creams, lotions, cleansers, etc)
• Employs an organized, efficient scientific fact-based approach with the ability to relay priorities
and focus on areas that add value to the organization and mete product development objectives
• Ability to objectively assess and recommend new technologies that will meet formulation
objectives
• Demonstrates ability to develop and present sound proposals and influence and motivate others
to achieve common objectives
• Time and project management skills
• Demonstrates ability to interact with cross-functional partners
• Ability to manage and/or contribute to the innovation process and to recognize creative ideas
• Demonstrates ability to use these ideas to achieve business objectives
• Data analysis skills and abilities to make recommendations that can positively impact the
scientific and business goals
• Ability to develop creative yet balanced solutions to complex problems that meet both the
business and scientific requirements
• Ability to manage multiple assignments and objectives with little or no supervision
• Management skills to develop and direct other scientists/technicians/temps
Technical Requirements
• Familiarity with Formulation (including OTC). A basic understanding of Quality, Regulatory,
Manufacturing procedures/protocol.
Educational Requirements
• Bachelors’ Degree in Chemistry or related technical field; advanced degree preferred
