24 Seven is partnering with our performance footwear and apparel brand with a bold approach to design to help them find a Senior Materials Designer to join their team in this hybrid role. This is a full-time, direct hire opportunity in Portland, OR that comes with excellent benefits. 

The Sr Materials Designer is responsible for the managing the creation of a seasonal material palette in coordination with the Director of Design. They will create compelling seasonal material stories, palettes and product and appeals to a diverse range of consumers. The individual will have an eye for detail and be involved in all stages of the product creation process, from initial trend research to theme creation, material specification and final execution of colors and finishes for production. They will work closely with the Footwear Design team and together create products that enable a world of athletes to fly over the earth.

The primary functions of this role, include but are not limited to:
1. Creating seasonal material directions, stories and palettes for footwear – Work with footwear team to create compelling material palette that is seasonally appropriate and ties to overall Seasonal Creative Direction.
2. Work with materials suppliers to design and develop new materials for use in footwear and or optimize existing materials for category and products specific uses.
3. Identify relevant trends in materials finishes, processes, constructions and incorporate appropriately within the range utilizing a Good Better Best tiering strategy according to price.
4. Work with the development and design teams to help ensure material matches intention in regards to aesthetic, performance, durability, color application, price, etc.

We’d love to hear from people with:
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, footwear design, fashion, graphic design or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of material trends and ability to translate for broader audience
  • Familiarity with material constructions, processes and limitations
  • Experienced in the preparation and presentation of material stories to management and other employees of the organization
  • Mastery of Adobe Illustrator, InDesign.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications, Adobe Photoshop, Keynote, PowerPoint
