Job description

THE ROLE

We’re looking for a content designer to help shape our clients’ new online experiences, especially in relation to e-commerce. This is a hugely collaborative role, where you’ll be working alongside UX/ UI designers, product managers, business analysts and user researchers.

We want to put content at the heart of our designs, so it’s thought about upfront rather than slotted in once the design and development work is complete. Your role will be to champion the importance of content throughout the design process to ensure the best possible user experience.

This means you’ll need to be adept at crafting simple, intuitive copy, that guides users to their destination. However, you’ll also need to be able to de-construct a user journey or set of screens to make sure that content is correctly placed and optimised to what a customer expects and needs at that moment.

The role is a mix of UX writing, content strategy, and design thinking. In terms of skillset, we’re looking for an accomplished digital writer, who can also contribute to the overall design direction by interrogating wireframes and prototypes to make sure they are fit for purpose.

We’re offering this role as a hybrid-working position – a mix of office-based and remote working. Ideally, we’d like someone who can be in our London office 2+ days per week.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Take part in design sprints to ideate and problem solve against new design challenges

  • Write copy for new user experiences including error messages, CTAs, labels, and help text

  • Review initial wireframes or prototypes against content requirements and feedback to the designers if the number, size, or placement of copy/ content boxes is not appropriate

  • Work with product managers, business analysts, and user researchers to understand user requirements – their wants, needs, and pain points – in order to design more empathetic experiences

  • Become an expert in the products you work on, championing the user’s needs throughout the design process

  • Keep on-top-of and contribute to tone of voice and writing style guidelines to ensure that language is clear and consistent

  • Spearhead the improvement of quality content across the experiences you work on, partnering with creatives and other team members where required

  • Support the continuous improvement and optimisation of content, through a process of test, learn and iterate – supplying alternative versions of copy/ content when needed

  • Keep regular, open communication with peers in the content team to knowledge share, break down silos across product squads, and learn from each other

  • Take responsibility for own personal development to fill any knowledge/ skills gaps in this relatively new discipline

While we are looking for people with all the experience outlined below, we would also be open to considering candidates that meet most of the criteria. For those who aren’t fully qualified, it would mean investing some time and effort in self-study as well as on-the-job training to get up-to-speed quickly.

Experience required:

  • Experience as a content designer, UX writer, content strategist, or equivalent. Will also consider copywriters with a keen interest/ experience in design, UX or strategy, or UX designers who want to move into writing

  • Exceptional command of the English language with first-rate writing and editing skills

  • Experience writing for user journeys/ apps./ web and mobile experiences, including micro copy, error messages, help and onboarding text hugely beneficial

  • Comfortable working in collaboration with developers and designers, and presenting to clients

  • Experience working at a Global or regional level taking account of different market requirements for copy and/ or content

  • Experience within a marketplace/ e-comm environment beneficial

  • Able to contribute ideas and input strategically – analytical and critical mindset

  • Familiarity with agile working practices is helpful, but not essential

  • Character traits –self-managing, curious, proactive, adaptable, strategic, empathetic, detail-oriented, solutions-focused

  • Solid prior agency experience
