Employment Type: Freelance
Contract Dates: October 1, 2026 – January 29, 2027
Location: Hybrid — Framingham, Massachusetts (onsite Tuesdays and Wednesdays)

Overview

We are seeking a motivated Data Analyst to support a Consumer Insights & Analytics function within a leading retail organization. This freelance opportunity is ideal for an analytical professional who enjoys working with large datasets, uncovering actionable trends, and translating research findings into clear, compelling business stories.

In this role, you will lead longitudinal and custom research initiatives using customer-panel data and unaided consumer feedback. Your work will inform marketing, customer experience, and merchandising strategies while expanding the organization’s understanding of customer behavior and the broader U.S. retail landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead quantitative research initiatives, including monthly and seasonal tracking studies, customer-panel analysis, and panel health and engagement activities.
  • Analyze unaided voice-of-customer data to identify customer perceptions, retailer strengths, opportunities, and broader retail trends.
  • Develop dashboards, recurring reports, and data visualizations that make consumer insights accessible to business partners.
  • Combine quantitative findings with qualitative learnings to explain the drivers behind customer behavior and performance trends.
  • Create clear, compelling presentations that communicate insights, recommendations, and business implications to stakeholders.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams across marketing, customer experience, and merchandising to support data-informed decision-making.
  • Manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy, quality, and on-time delivery.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three to five years of experience in consumer insights, market research, analytics, or a related field.
  • Strong quantitative analysis and research skills, with the ability to interpret complex datasets.
  • Genuine curiosity about customer behavior, consumer trends, and the retail environment.
  • Ability to turn complex information into practical, easy-to-understand recommendations.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail while maintaining awareness of the broader business context.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, organization, and project-management skills.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is an organized, customer-focused analyst who can move comfortably between detailed data analysis and executive-ready storytelling. They bring strong research discipline, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to transform consumer feedback into meaningful business recommendations.
