Job description

POSITION:

Junior Graphic Designer
ORGANIZATION: National Review
REPORTS TO: Senior Graphic Designer
LOCATION: In-Office in Arlington, VA, 5 days/week

BACKGROUND
Our client has been a leader in the conservative movement and one of the most trusted media institutions in America. They are looking for a Designer to shape the national conversation with clarity, integrity, and intellectual depth.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Client is seeking a Junior Graphic Designer to support the production of visual assets across growing slate of digital marketing and editorial initiatives. Working under the direction of the Senior Graphic Designer, this person will help execute a continual stream of campaigns across paid and owned channels — social, email, digital advertising, and fundraising — primarily for digital platforms, with occasional print layout work. This is an entry-level, production-focused role well suited to a designer early in their career who is eager to build professional experience in a fast-paced newsroom environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce graphics for social media platforms including YouTube, X, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and TikTok, following creative direction from senior team members.
  • Support the Senior Graphic Designer and marketing team in creating assets for email campaigns, digital ads, landing pages, event collateral, and fundraising appeals.
  • Resize and adapt creative assets across the many formats, aspect ratios, and specifications required to run campaigns across multiple platforms simultaneously.
  • Assist with basic print layout tasks (newsletters, one-pagers, signage, event materials) as needed.
  • Use Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and Canva to execute creative briefs accurately and on brand.
  • Experiment with and apply AI image-generation tools to help produce the volume and variety of imagery required for multi-channel campaigns.
  • Maintain organized, well-labeled asset libraries and apply brand guidelines consistently across all outputs.
  • Manage multiple small assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-moving newsroom and marketing environment.
  • Contribute creative ideas and stay current on design and platform trends.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1–3 years of graphic design experience (internships, freelance work, or relevant coursework are welcome).
  • Working proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and Illustrator required; InDesign a plus) and Canva; familiarity with Figma preferred.
  • Basic understanding of social media platform specifications and best practices.
  • Foundational grasp of typography, layout, and color theory.
  • Willingness to learn and apply AI image-generation tools if not already familiar with them.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple small projects under deadline pressure.
  • A portfolio (academic, freelance, or professional) demonstrating digital and social media design work.
  • Personal sense of humility, respect for others, and a commitment to continually learn and improve.
  • A belief in the principles of America’s founding, including individual liberty, limited government, economic freedom, personal responsibility, and traditional values.

WHAT WE OFFER

  • Competitive salary commensurate with experience.
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision.
  • A collaborative, mission-driven team environment.
  • The opportunity to work on one of the most recognized brands in American media.
