Our client, a manufacturer and distributor of consumer products across multiple owned brands is seeking a talented and experienced Packaging Graphic Design Manager to lead packaging design initiatives and support a small in-house creative team.
This is a fulltime position that is onsite 5 days a week.
Position Overview
The Packaging Graphic Design Manager will lead and mentor a team of junior designers while remaining hands-on in the development of retail packaging. This role requires strong expertise in packaging design for physical consumer products, particularly hard goods, and an understanding of the technical aspects of packaging production.
The ideal candidate is both a creative problem-solver and an experienced people manager who can balance strategic direction with executional design work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of retail packaging across multiple consumer product brands
- Manage and mentor a small team of Graphic Designers, providing direction, feedback, and support
- Conceptualize and execute packaging design from initial idea through production-ready files
- Create packaging layouts for formats such as window boxes, hanging cards, and boxed products
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure packaging aligns with brand standards and product positioning
- Prepare print-ready artwork and ensure files meet production specifications
- Work with overseas manufacturing partners (primarily in China) to ensure packaging is produced accurately and efficiently
- Communicate clearly with vendors to resolve design, layout, or production questions
- Ensure accuracy of dielines, specifications, and technical packaging requirements
- Support continuous improvement of packaging quality, efficiency, and visual consistency
- Stay current on packaging trends, materials, and production techniques
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Senior Graphic Designer with a strong focus on retail packaging
- Prior experience managing or mentoring at least 1–3 direct reports
- Strong portfolio demonstrating retail packaging for physical consumer products
- Experience working with packaging production processes, including dielines and print specifications
- Experience collaborating with overseas manufacturers and vendors
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator
- Experience using AI tools to support rendering and design workflows
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience designing packaging for hard goods or consumer products (home goods, toys, electronics, tools, etc.)
- Familiarity with 3D packaging renderings or visualization tools
- Understanding of packaging materials and structural design considerations
- Experience working in fast-paced product development environments
