Product Test Engineer 2

We are seeking a detail-oriented Product Test Engineer to support the development and evaluation of performance footwear products for a leading consumer products organization. This freelance, on-site role is ideal for a hands-on testing professional who is comfortable working independently, collaborating within a laboratory environment, and adapting to evolving project needs.

Position Overview

  • Employment Type: Freelance contract
  • Work Arrangement: On-site, five days per week during typical business hours
  • Contract Length: Approximately 13 months from start date
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a laboratory or product-testing environment

What You’ll Do

  • Perform hands-on testing of basketball footwear products, materials, and components.
  • Execute product and materials testing protocols while maintaining accurate, detailed documentation.
  • Support test setup, sample preparation, data collection, and reporting activities.
  • Partner closely with a small day-to-day testing team while contributing to a broader cross-functional group.
  • Work independently with limited oversight, identifying priorities and progressing assignments proactively.
  • Navigate changing requirements and ambiguous testing scenarios with sound judgment and flexibility.
  • Communicate findings, observations, and test results clearly to team members and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Product Development, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a lab, quality, engineering, or product-testing environment.
  • Hands-on experience testing products and/or materials.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal direction and manage responsibilities independently.
  • Adaptable, collaborative approach in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with statistical analysis and interpretation of test data.
  • Experience operating universal testing machines (UTMs), Instron equipment, or similar laboratory systems.
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • Experience with 3D printing or rapid prototyping.
