Senior Account Executive, Media Relations (PR)
Job Summary
The Senior Account Executive plays a key role in leading the development, execution, and optimization of earned media initiatives that align with client objectives and broader strategic goals. This individual brings a strong foundation in media relations, pitching, and storytelling, with the ability to own programs end-to-end and contribute to account growth.
This role requires fluency across today’s evolving editorial landscape and the ability to translate insights into impactful media strategies that drive meaningful results.
Key Responsibilities
Media Relations & Strategy
- Lead and execute proactive media relations strategies across traditional, digital, and emerging platforms
- Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, and key media contacts
- Own and drive pitching efforts, tailoring story angles to different audiences and platforms
- Secure meaningful earned coverage through consistent outreach, events, and integrated campaigns
- Identify trends, newsjacking opportunities, and cultural moments to support timely storytelling
Client & Account Leadership
- Serve as a key day-to-day client contact, providing strategic counsel and ensuring seamless communication
- Lead client meetings, confidently presenting ideas, media strategies, and results
- Develop and oversee media materials including press releases, pitches, briefs, and executive communications
- Demonstrate deep understanding of client businesses, industries, and competitive landscapes
Strategy, Measurement & Insights
- Contribute to and help lead integrated earned media strategies that connect PR, digital, and influencer efforts
- Leverage analytics, monitoring tools, and performance data to optimize outreach and strategy
- Translate insights into actionable recommendations for clients and internal teams
- Stay informed on media trends, platform innovations, and evolving audience behaviors
Team Collaboration & Mentorship
- Mentor and guide junior team members, providing feedback and support on media strategy and execution
- Collaborate cross-functionally with strategy, creative, and account teams to ensure integrated programs
- Support team development by sharing best practices, insights, and industry knowledge
New Business & Growth
- Support new business efforts including research, pitch development, and presentation building
- Contribute to identifying opportunities for account growth and expanded media programming
Qualifications

Experience: 4–6+ years in public relations, media relations, or communications, ideally within an agency environment (elevated from junior specialist level)

Core Expertise: Strong media relations experience with a proven track record of successful pitching and coverage generation

- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strategic thinking with strong storytelling ability
- Strong organizational and project management skills across multiple accounts

Technical Knowledge:
- Familiarity with media monitoring and analytics platforms (e.g., Cision, Muck Rack, Meltwater, Google Analytics)
- Understanding of SEO, search behavior, and evolving media discovery trends
- Comfort leveraging AI-enabled tools for research, outreach, and reporting optimization

Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, or a related field
