Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Associate Director, Social Media Strategist to lead social strategy across a portfolio of high-profile pharmaceutical brands. This freelance role will drive end-to-end social media strategy in complex therapeutic categories including Respiratory, Immunology, Oncology, and Rare Kidney/Metabolic Diseases.
You will partner closely with clients and internal teams to develop insight-driven social programs, steward brand presence across key platforms, and ensure all work is aligned with regulatory requirements and best practices in pharma marketing.
- Freelance, full-time hours (40 hours/week).
- Initial 3-month assignment, potential for extension
- Remote candidates will be considered; hybrid availability preferred for talent in the NYC area.
- Rate $50-55/hr (DOE)
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the social media strategy for multiple pharma brands in Respiratory, Immunology, Oncology, and Rare Kidney/Metabolic Diseases.
- Develop channel-specific strategies and content approaches for Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, and LinkedIn.
- Act as a strategic partner to clients, confidently presenting recommendations, rationale, and performance insights.
- Translate brand, audience, and competitive insights into social-first ideas, content themes, and campaign frameworks.
- Collaborate with creative, account, medical/legal/regulatory, and analytics teams to bring social strategies to life and ensure compliant execution.
- Guide always-on and campaign social initiatives, including paid/organic mix, community engagement approach (as applicable), and optimization recommendations.
- Monitor performance and provide strategic recommendations to refine content, messaging, and channel mix over time.
- Stay current on platform updates, social trends, and best practices in healthcare and pharma social media; proactively share implications and opportunities.
Required Experience & Skills
- Senior-level experience in pharma social media is required.
- Demonstrated ability to lead social media strategy for complex therapeutic categories and highly regulated brands.
- Deep familiarity with how to leverage Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, and LinkedIn for branded and unbranded pharma initiatives.
- Comfort navigating medical/legal/regulatory considerations and partnering with cross-functional teams in a healthcare agency environment.
- Strong client-facing skills, including presenting, defending, and refining strategic recommendations.
- Proven track record of using data and insights to inform strategy and optimize social programs.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams and stakeholders in a fast-paced agency setting.
