Job description

Design Systems Web Designer (Drupal)
Details:

  • Fully remote / work from home
  • Contract role
  • Full benefits, including PTO
  • $45-$50/hr pay rate depending on experience

Overview

We’re partnering with a well-established organization to find a Design Systems Web Designer to support and evolve a scalable, Drupal-based digital design system. This role sits at the intersection of web UI design and front-end collaboration, with a strong emphasis on design tokens, color systems, and reusable components—not back-end development.
This is an execution-focused, systems-oriented role supporting ongoing web initiatives rather than a full site redesign.

What You’ll Be Working On
This role supports two core areas:
1. Digital Design System

  • Build, maintain, and evolve a web-based design system
  • Define and manage design tokens (color, typography, spacing, etc.)
  • Maintain structured, accessible color palettes
  • Ensure consistency across components as designs evolve
  • Support refresh updates as well as some net-new components

2. Ongoing Web & Component Design

  • Design and refine reusable web components (not one-off pages)
  • Support redevelopment of landing pages using existing components
  • Design or redesign ~30–40 components per year
  • Collaborate closely with front-end engineers to ensure clean handoff into code
  • Participate in working sessions (wireframing, brainstorming, iteration) rather than formal presentations

Platform & Environment

  • Drupal (experience is important)
  • Component-driven web architecture
  • Design system–first mindset
  • Collaborative workflow with front-end engineering
  • Components are reviewed by compliance, but the designer will have minimal direct interaction with compliance

What We’re Looking For

  • Advanced experience in web/UI design
  • Strong experience with design systems and component libraries
  • Hands-on experience defining and maintaining design tokens
  • Deep understanding of web UI, accessibility, and scalable design
  • Comfort working in Drupal environments (theming or component-based workflows)
  • Experience collaborating with front-end developers
  • Ability to work independently and maintain systems over time

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in regulated or highly governed environments
  • Ability to present A/B/C design options when helpful
  • Familiarity with both agile and waterfall workflows
