The R&D Fabric and Trim Manager leads the research, development, and sourcing of fabrics and trims to support design and production needs. This role ensures materials meet aesthetic, performance, cost, and timing requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive research and development of new fabrics and trims aligned with design and product goals.
- Partner with design, product development, and production to translate concepts into viable material options.
- Source and manage a global network of fabric and trim suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and lead times to balance cost, quality, and delivery.
- Set and maintain material quality standards and testing requirements.
- Troubleshoot and resolve material quality or performance issues with vendors.
- Monitor and manage material costs and budgets; identify opportunities for cost optimization.
- Support material compliance, sustainability targets, and traceability where applicable.
- Oversee material library, technical specs, and documentation.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in fabric and trim R&D, sourcing, or material development.
- Bachelor’s degree in textiles, material science, fashion, or related field.
- Strong understanding of textile construction, finishes, and manufacturing processes.
- Proven experience working with cross-functional design and production teams.
- Skilled in vendor management and negotiation.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication skills.
- Familiarity with sustainability and compliance standards for materials is a plus.
