We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Technical Apparel Designer to join a well-known fashion and apparel brand on a part-time freelance basis. This role offers a hybrid working arrangement, requiring occasional onsite presence to collaborate with design, product development, and production teams.
The Technical Apparel Designer must have strong expertise in garment construction, technical design, and fit development, with the ability to translate creative concepts into clear technical specifications that guide sampling and production. You will play a key role in ensuring designs are executed with accuracy, quality, and consistency from concept through production.
Ideal Technical Apparel Designer candidates will have:
– At least 3–5+ years of experience in technical design within the apparel industry.
– Proficiency in creating and maintaining detailed tech packs, specifications, and construction sheets.
– Strong knowledge of garment construction, materials, trims, and manufacturing processes.
– Experience conducting fittings, reviewing samples, and communicating clear fit/construction comments.
– Proficiency in Illustrator, Photoshop, PLM systems, or other industry-standard tools.
– Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
– Availability for hybrid onsite work as required.
Job Responsibilities:
– Partner with design and product development to translate design concepts into accurate technical packages for sampling and production.
– Create and update detailed technical flats, specifications, BOMs, and construction standards.
– Lead fit sessions, analyze samples, and provide clear direction for corrections to ensure fit and quality meet brand standards.
– Communicate effectively with vendors, factories, and internal teams to resolve construction or fit issues.
– Ensure consistency across product lines by maintaining brand fit standards, construction methods, and quality benchmarks.
– Stay current on new materials, trims, and construction techniques to enhance product innovation and efficiency.
