We are seeking a detail-oriented R&D Lab Technician to support formulation development, prototype preparation, product testing, and laboratory operations within the skincare and personal care industry. This freelance role will partner with research and development personnel to help ensure accurate testing, organized documentation, safe laboratory practices, and timely execution of development activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare laboratory batches for new product prototypes, sample evaluations, and reformulation projects.
  • Support stability testing programs, record observations, and assist with preparation of stability reports.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, batch documentation, test results, and sample-tracking information.
  • Clean, maintain, and organize laboratory instruments, glassware, workstations, and shared equipment.
  • Assist with routine equipment checks, calibration coordination, and maintenance activities.
  • Manage inventories of raw materials, consumables, packaging components, and laboratory supplies.
  • Prepare product samples and submissions for internal review, testing, and cross-functional evaluation.
  • Interpret and communicate basic experimental observations, stability results, and formulation data.
  • Support scale-up readiness by following established procedures and documenting product quality, appearance, and performance observations.
  • Follow laboratory safety procedures, applicable regulations, and good housekeeping practices at all times.
  • Manage assigned priorities independently while communicating progress, risks, and timeline needs to the R&D team.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in chemistry, biology, formulation science, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Two or more years of hands-on laboratory or bench experience, preferably in cosmetics, skincare, personal care, consumer products, or a related field.
  • Experience preparing batches, handling raw materials, and supporting product-development testing.
  • Working knowledge of formulation stability, laboratory documentation, and basic data interpretation.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative working style.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to safely lift and move laboratory materials and containers as needed.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based in a professional research and development laboratory environment. The role requires regular use of laboratory tools, equipment, raw materials, and computer-based documentation systems. The technician must consistently follow safety protocols and maintain an orderly, professional workspace.

Physical Requirements
