Job description

Our client, a marketing and communications agency that specializes in the Life Science and Biopharma space, is looking for a freelance Senior Medical Editor to join their team, starting immediately, through March 2026. The role will be remote, but require EST hours and range from 20-30 hours per week (with possibility to flex to 40).

Overview:
The Senior Medical Editor ensures scientific and editorial excellence across healthcare communications. This role provides a full range of editorial services, including medical editing, copyediting, proofreading, and fact-checking, for deliverables. The Senior Medical Editor serves as the primary editorial resource for assigned projects, maintaining ownership from early development
through final review, and partnering closely with cross-functional teams to uphold clarity, accuracy, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities (not limited to):
Editorial Quality and Final Review:

  • Conduct the final review of all client-facing deliverables prior to client submission and medical/regulatory/legal (MeRL) review. This includes presentations, website copy, social media content, emails, and reports, or materials that may also be leveraged for new business opportunities.
  • Review and refine materials for clarity, consistency, tone, brand alignment, scientific accuracy, and adherence to style and regulatory standards.
  • Provide both quick-turn “triage” edits under tight timelines and comprehensive line editing for high-priority deliverables.

Style, Accuracy, and Compliance

  • Maintain and enforce client-specific style standards across all materials, ensuring consistency in terminology and messaging.
  • Maintain up-to-date style guides and templates, collaborating regularly (bi-weekly) with Regulatory and Copy teams to incorporate updates or client changes.
  • Perform light fact and terminology checks to confirm scientific accuracy and ensure proper alignment with verified sources (note: this does not replace subject matter expert review).
  • Ensure all materials comply with medical, regulatory, and legal (MRL) guidelines and each client’s unique requirements.

Collaboration & Process Support

  • Partner with Creative, Copy, Account, and Project Management teams to resolve content questions, prioritize workloads, and streamline project completion.
  • Represent the Editorial function in internal kickoffs, content reviews, and status meetings.
  • Participate in content development to establish editorial consistency, ensure proper structure, and guide overall content flow.
  • Review content at all stages for grammar, clarity, brand voice, client tone, and AMA/client style compliance.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and professional experience).
  • 5+ years of editing experience within healthcare, medical communications, or pharmaceutical fields; experience in advertising or marketing preferred. cglife.com
  • Deep familiarity with AMA Manual of Style and AP style.
  • Experience with medical/regulatory/legal review (MRL) processes and understanding of FDA promotional guidelines.
  • Strong command of medical and scientific terminology.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and accuracy.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ownership, accountability, and ability to work independently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
