Job description

About the Role

The Assistant Store Manager is a senior leader on the sales floor and serves as the Store Manager’s second-in-command. This role helps set the service pace, develop team members, support business performance, and maintain the operational standards required for a premium retail environment.

As a hands-on leader, you will sell and build customer relationships alongside the team while taking ownership of daily store execution, including opening and closing procedures, cash handling, inventory support, team communication, and customer experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the sales floor during assigned shifts by assigning zones, setting service expectations, and modeling exceptional customer service.
  • Sell, style, and build lasting customer relationships through personalized service and clienteling.
  • Support the Store Manager in coaching, developing, and motivating associates and key holders.
  • Provide real-time feedback on selling behaviors, product knowledge, service standards, and operational execution.
  • Help drive store performance by understanding key retail metrics, including sales, conversion, average order value, units per transaction, traffic, and clienteling activity.
  • Communicate store performance, customer concerns, staffing needs, inventory issues, and operational updates clearly to leadership.
  • Handle customer escalations and service recovery with professionalism, sound judgment, and urgency.
  • Support store events, vendor partnerships, and local community activations.
  • Assist with scheduling, store coverage, timekeeping, payroll review, and labor planning.
  • Maintain accurate inventory practices, help investigate discrepancies, and ensure product movement is properly documented.
  • Own opening and closing routines, cash handling, drawer counts, deposits, point-of-sale integrity, and audit-ready store standards.
  • Maintain visual merchandising, cleanliness, safety, and loss-prevention standards throughout each shift.
  • When the Store Manager is unavailable, assume responsibility for the team, customer experience, store operations, and business performance.

What We’re Looking For

  • Retail experience with keyholder, shift lead, or comparable leadership responsibility.
  • Strong sales and clienteling skills with the ability to lead by example on the floor.
  • Ability to understand, communicate, and act on retail performance metrics.
  • Demonstrated coaching ability and a commitment to developing team members in the moment.
  • Experience with cash handling, opening and closing procedures, and store operational standards.
  • Sound judgment in customer escalations, safety matters, and loss-prevention situations.
  • Clear, timely communication with leaders and teammates across shifts.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and other peak retail periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in specialty, premium, or high-volume retail.
  • Experience supporting inventory execution, scheduling, payroll review, or store events.
  • Knowledge of retail compliance, safety, and loss-prevention practices.
