Production Artist, Packaging

Employment Type: Freelance, 6 months
Location: Remote or hybrid – whichever is preferred

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Freelance Production Artist, Packaging to transform approved creative concepts into precise, print-ready packaging artwork across cosmetics and skincare products. This role works closely with Packaging Design, Copy, Project Management, and external production partners to ensure every file meets brand, regulatory, and technical production standards.

What You’ll Do

  • Create, update, and maintain print-ready packaging mechanicals for a high volume of beauty and skincare products.
  • Translate approved packaging designs into accurate production files while maintaining established typography, layout, brand standards, and technical specifications.
  • Apply and verify copy, ingredient lists, barcodes, legal language, regulatory content, printer callouts, and other required packaging details.
  • Build mechanical files from existing templates and develop new production files when needed.
  • Collaborate with Packaging Design, Copy, Project Management, and cross-functional partners throughout the packaging development process.
  • Prepare artwork for internal review, vendor review, and final release to print.
  • Proofread and quality-check files to identify copy, layout, color, dieline, and production issues before release.
  • Manage multiple projects, changing priorities, and production timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain organized files, version control, and supporting documentation in accordance with team processes.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong experience converting design files into accurate, print-ready packaging mechanicals.
  • Working knowledge of packaging print processes, dielines, bleeds, color builds, production specifications, and printer requirements.
  • Excellent typography, layout, proofreading, and detail-oriented quality-control skills.
  • Ability to interpret and apply multiple brand, regulatory, and production guidelines across concurrent projects.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, with working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Clear communication skills and comfort incorporating direction from designers, production leads, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a deadline-driven team.
  • Proactive approach to workload planning, issue escalation, and priority management.

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Packaging Design, Visual Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • Print production or packaging production experience.
  • Experience supporting beauty, personal care, consumer goods, or related packaging categories is strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing high-volume workflows and multiple concurrent product launches.
  • Experience with project management tools such as Wrike is a plus.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
