Senior Technical Designer

Dress company looking for a highly skilled Freelance Senior Technical Designer to join the team on a freelance basis. This assignment is well suited for an experienced professional who can quickly step in, manage technical design responsibilities with minimal oversight, and support the successful execution of women’s apparel from development through production. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in dress construction, fit, specifications, and vendor communication, with eveningwear experience strongly valued.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead technical design execution for dresses and related categories, ensuring product accuracy from prototype through final production.
- Evaluate garment fit, balance, construction, and workmanship to ensure alignment with design intent and brand standards.
- Create and revise technical packages, including measurement specs, construction details, fit comments, and BOM information.
- Conduct sample reviews and provide clear, actionable feedback to vendors and cross-functional partners.
- Partner with Design, Product Development, and Production teams to resolve technical challenges efficiently.
- Track sample status, maintain fit logs, and ensure all updates are accurately documented and communicated.
- Review counter samples and pre-production samples to confirm readiness for bulk production.
- Apply strong patternmaking, grading, and garment engineering knowledge to improve fit and consistency.
- Help manage timelines and ensure deliverables stay on schedule within seasonal calendars.
- Communicate with overseas vendors and internal teams to address spec issues, quality concerns, and construction questions.
- Support problem-solving across multiple styles while maintaining a high level of detail and organization.
Qualifications:
- Significant experience in technical design within women’s apparel.
- Strong background in dresses required; evening or special occasion apparel experience preferred.
- Expertise in garment fit, specifications, grading, and construction.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong proficiency with technical documentation and relevant computer systems.
