Job description

Social Media Strategist

Employment Type: Full-Time
3-4 Days ON-SITE in NYC

The Role

We are seeking a Social Media Strategist to shape the ideas, strategy, and editorial direction behind a growing beauty brand’s social presence. This is a highly creative, insight-driven role responsible for defining what the brand says, how it shows up, and which conversations it should lead across social channels.

You will own social strategy from high-level channel planning through content concepts and creative briefs. You will bring a clear point of view on emerging culture, platform behavior, audience interests, and the trends worth acting on. Rather than simply maintaining a content calendar, you will develop ideas that build a distinctive, cohesive brand world and create meaningful engagement.

Working closely with a Social Content Manager, you will translate strategic concepts into actionable briefs that guide content production, on-camera storytelling, editing, and publishing. You will also partner with Creative, Product, Retail, and PR teams to ensure social activity is integrated with broader brand priorities, launches, and campaigns.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and lead an integrated social media strategy across key platforms.
  • Build channel-specific content plans, including grid architecture, story planning, campaign moments, and always-on programming.
  • Identify cultural moments, emerging trends, and audience insights that can inspire relevant, brand-right content.
  • Create clear, compelling creative briefs for social content, campaigns, partnerships, and product storytelling.
  • Partner with the Social Content Manager to bring concepts to life through strong execution and platform-native content.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Creative, Product, Retail, and PR teams to align social programming with business and brand priorities.
  • Establish a thoughtful point of view on which trends to pursue, adapt, or decline based on brand relevance.
  • Monitor channel performance, audience behavior, and competitive activity to inform ongoing strategy and optimization.
  • Help define a consistent voice, visual approach, and content ecosystem that strengthens long-term brand affinity.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience developing social media strategy for a consumer-facing brand, ideally within beauty, fashion, wellness, lifestyle, or a related industry.
  • Strong creative judgment and a deep understanding of social culture, platform trends, and digital storytelling.
  • Ability to turn cultural insights and audience behavior into original, actionable content ideas.
  • Exceptional briefing, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience planning content across multiple social platforms and adapting ideas for each channel’s audience and format.
  • A balance of strategic thinking and hands-on creativity, with comfort moving from big-picture planning to detailed execution.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.

Why This Role Matters

This role will play a central part in building a distinctive social presence for an innovative beauty brand. You will have the opportunity to shape the conversation, establish creative standards, and develop social programming that connects products, culture, and community in a way that feels current, intentional, and unmistakably on-brand.
