Manager of Supply Chain- Beauty/Personal Care- San Fernando Valley area, CA
Position Summary
The Manager of Supply Chain leads and strengthens end-to-end supply chain operations, including strategic sourcing, purchasing, demand planning, inventory optimization, supplier management, product costing, quoting, and supply chain analytics. This role ensures materials and production supplies are available to support customer demand, manufacturing schedules, and continued growth.
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Manager of Supply Chain provides leadership for the purchasing function, including direct oversight of the Buyer. The ideal candidate is a hands-on, data-driven leader who can build scalable processes, improve cross-functional visibility, and use technology, automation, and AI-enabled tools to improve decision-making and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
- Lead, coach, and develop the Buyer while establishing clear priorities, performance expectations, and measurable goals.
- Build scalable purchasing and supply chain processes, including SOPs, workflows, controls, and reporting tools.
- Identify and implement process improvements that reduce manual work, improve visibility, and strengthen operational execution.
- Develop and monitor supply chain KPIs, including supplier performance, inventory turns, service levels, forecast accuracy, and purchase price variance.
- Partner with Operations leadership to improve business performance, reduce risk, and support growth initiatives.
Procurement & Strategic Sourcing
- Manage procurement of raw materials, packaging components, production supplies, and MRO materials.
- Negotiate supplier pricing, lead times, minimum order quantities, payment terms, freight agreements, and service expectations.
- Develop strong supplier relationships and identify alternate sources to reduce supply continuity risk.
- Maintain supplier scorecards and conduct regular supplier performance reviews.
- Monitor market conditions, commodity trends, and cost drivers to identify savings opportunities and mitigate cost increases.
- Support product costing and customer quoting with accurate material, freight, and supply chain inputs.
Demand, Supply & Production Planning
- Develop and maintain demand forecasts using customer forecasts, historical demand, seasonality, product launches, and market trends.
- Translate demand plans into purchasing requirements and material availability plans.
- Support Sales & Operations Planning activities by providing clear supply, inventory, and capacity insights.
- Identify potential material constraints early and coordinate mitigation plans before production is affected.
- Partner with Project Management, Sales, Manufacturing, Warehouse, Quality, and customers to improve demand visibility and production readiness.
Inventory Management
- Develop inventory strategies that balance customer service, material availability, and working capital requirements.
- Establish and maintain safety stock levels, reorder points, and min/max inventory targets.
- Analyze inventory performance and take action to reduce excess, obsolete, expired, and slow-moving inventory.
- Improve inventory turns while preventing stockouts and production interruptions.
- Partner with the Warehouse team to improve inventory accuracy, cycle-count effectiveness, and material traceability.
Vendor & Cross-Functional Management
- Manage strategic supplier relationships and lead structured performance reviews.
- Communicate supply risks, shortages, lead-time changes, and recovery plans to Operations leadership and key stakeholders.
- Coordinate material readiness with production schedules and ensure critical components are available before production begins.
- Drive collaboration across Manufacturing, Warehouse, Quality, Finance, Project Management, and commercial teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, or a related field; equivalent experience considered.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in supply chain, procurement, materials management, or production planning.
- Experience leading or mentoring purchasing, planning, or supply chain team members.
- Strong negotiating, supplier management, and strategic sourcing capabilities.
- Demonstrated experience with demand planning, inventory control, forecasting, and production or material planning.
- Advanced analytical skills with proficiency in Excel and ERP or MRP systems.
- Ability to use data, reporting, automation, and modern technology tools to improve operational performance.
- Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing, consumer packaged goods, contract manufacturing, or a related production environment.
- Experience with packaging components, raw material sourcing, and supplier quality programs.
- APICS/ASCM, CSCP, CPIM, or related supply chain certification.
- Experience implementing process automation, dashboards, or AI-supported operational workflows.
