Trade Compliance Specialist – Mid-Level

An established company in the retail industry is seeking a mid-level Trade Compliance Specialist for a full-time freelance engagement supporting import compliance operations. This opportunity is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with experience in customs compliance, import regulations, and cross-functional coordination. The role plays an important part in helping ensure imported goods meet U.S. Customs and other government agency requirements while supporting internal workflows, vendor communication, and process improvement efforts.

In this position, you will help maintain accurate import data, documentation, and reporting so entry filings can be completed correctly and on time. You will also assist with compliance validations, issue resolution, audit support, onboarding activities, and process documentation. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and a consistent focus on accuracy while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

This is a remote freelance role working 40 hours per week. Candidates must be within commuting distance of Marlborough, Massachusetts, as occasional onsite attendance may be needed for meetings, training, or business activities. What You’ll Do

• Review vendor documentation for accuracy related to customs classification and import requirements.
• Support compliance audits, validations, and regulatory reviews, including AD/CVD and HTS code verification activities.
• Create, update, and maintain standard operating procedures and other process documentation.
• Prepare and manage reports for internal stakeholders and external service providers.
• Coordinate with internal teams and external partners to investigate and resolve operational or compliance-related issues.
• Assist with vendor onboarding activities, including outreach and startup support.
• Provide support for billing-related documentation and processes.
• Track performance and productivity of third-party service providers.
• Audit reports to confirm data accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
• Contribute to special projects and provide broader team support as needed.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience in customs compliance, importing, or a related trade compliance function.
• Customs Broker License preferred, or willingness to pursue one.
• Experience working in a fast-paced corporate environment.
• Ability to quickly learn new systems, tools, and business processes.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint, and Power BI.
• Hands-on Excel experience, including functions such as VLOOKUP and PivotTables.
• Ability to conduct online research and apply findings to compliance-related work.
• Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and organizational ability.
• Collaborative mindset, positive attitude, and willingness to support team goals.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining quality and accuracy.
