Job Description
We’re seeking an experienced accountant to oversee a small team in the role of Controller (CPA or Big 4 a plus). The ideal candidate will have proven industry experience as an accountant in a leadership role. As a strong communicator and skilled financial analyst, you will make it your mission to streamline our budgeting, analysis and financial reporting processes. You will produce thorough financial statements and related financial analysis for senior management to help improve our value and continued growth. This position owns the books of the business and runs the financial process (soup to nuts) including a monthly financial review (budget v actual) with the entire executive team.
Objectives of this Role
- Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points
- Guide financial decisions by applying company policies and procedures to current economic landscape
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines
- Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective action
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities
- Manage and monitor all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements as well as the requirements of loans, and other license contracts
- Maintain internal control safeguards for the receipt of revenue, costs and both team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures
- In conjunction with the COO, establish financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on a bi-weekly, monthly, and annual basis
- Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, upholding federal, state, and local legal standards by remaining knowledgeable about existing, new, and future legislation
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow
- Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity
- Credit management and Accounts receiveable
- Accounts Payable and supplier relations
- Royalty fee management
- Management of external accountants (Cohn Reznik) for annual review
- Banking Covenant calculations (monthly)
- Expense Management
- Contract reviews and negotiation
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in, accounting, CPA a plus
- 7-10 years proven accounting experience, currently a sitting Controller or a seasoned accounting manager moving to Controller
- Working knowledge of financial statements, footnotes and regulatory standards (GAAP)
- Strong understanding of treasury and banking processes
- Working knowledge of sales tax compliance regulations and reporting
- Currently holding leadership role in multi-channel Retail, Direct-to-Consumer and Wholesale financial management for Apparel and Accessories brands.
