The company specializes in creating high-quality, innovative, and custom beauty tools for various beauty brands in the cosmetics industry. They gained a reputation for their expertise in brush design, development, and manufacturing. They are looking for a Controller to join their team!
THE ROLE
The Controller position holds a vital role within the organization, overseeing corporate accounting and various financial functions, including reporting and cash management. Leading the Accounting team, the role ensures the accuracy and accessibility of business data, financial reports, budget information, and analysis. Additionally, collaboration with the Finance and Accounting team in our subsidiary overseas is part of the responsibilities. The ideal candidate is motivated by accurate reporting, detail-oriented process auditing, and understands the significance of clear and timely communication.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Plans, directs, and manages accounting and finance-related activities for three businesses (1 B2B and 2 D2C).
• Ensures accuracy in accounting functions, covering accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and inventory.
• Maintains the accuracy of the general ledger, reviews journal entries, and conducts monthly reconciliations; performs meaningful variance analysis and presents results to leadership.
• Reviews and provides oversight of the monthly close process.
• Prepares and maintains precise financial reports, presenting a standard monthly management reporting package.
• Leads the annual financial forecasting process and oversees corporate, subsidiary, and departmental budgets.
• Manages cash flow and foreign currency management.
• Provides leadership, coaching, and mentoring for the Accounting Department team, fostering an environment that encourages diverse views and approaches for optimal results.
• Implements, documents, and maintains best practices processes for the accounting and finance department.
• Implements internal controls to ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant regulatory laws, monitoring and enforcing internal controls to minimize risk.
• Oversees revenue recognition and operations, including sales tax liability.
• Manages audits and annual tax filings with external firms.
• Collaborates with senior executives to understand their analysis and reporting needs, providing ad-hoc financial information as requested.
• Serves as a key technical expert for accounting matters, contributing to informed business decisions.
• Manages other projects as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience.
• 4+ years of team management experience, demonstrating leadership skills and the ability to develop high-performing teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; MBA strongly preferred.
• CPA certification highly desirable.
• Ecommerce/D2C experience required; Shopify experience preferred.
• Manufacturing industry experience required.
• Experience working with ERP platforms.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, accurate, and adept at consistently meeting deadlines.
• Thorough understanding of GAAP, internal controls, operational risk assessment, and financial reporting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate issues and provide guidance for resolution.
• Expert proficiency in Excel.
• Strong written and oral communication skills, including presentation skills.
• Proven ability to manage projects, allocate resources, and collaborate across disciplines and locations.
